It is equally likely if you don't kill it when you catch them that some other predator in the wild will.

I had about 4 successful kills with a snap trap. Then i came home one day, checked the cupboard, Saw a mouse in the trap. I grab it, and all of a suddent he mouse starts struggling. The bar was halfway through its head and neck. I start bugging and i run to the bathroom with it and flush it. That was the last trap i ever set. :(

what are some poisons you can put outsided that will kill thr mice but won't harm cats dogs rabbits all the cute animals that do deserve to live?

just live and let live, they aren't hurting anything. Just put some food and water out for them, give them a name. Free range gerbils or hamsters.

people who put those foods out end up poisoning chipmunks, squirrels, cats, dogs, rabbits, everything. they should really be illegal. Mouse traps these days work everytime no need for poisons, and they will only kill mice.

Still haven't caught one in my live trap.

if you release them in a field or something it's amazing how quick an owl or hawk shows up, they are so hungry and need food. Very few prey left for them these days.

I'm surrounded by farmland, and in the fall at harvest time they make a move to the acreage. The outer perimeter is manned by quit a few cats, and if they make it inside there are 2 more cats. A couple years back one made it into the house, to the second floor into the bedroom and I woke up to scratching on my pillow and when I turned on the light I watched it scamper down the side of the bed and it was gone. About 10 snap traps and a day later he was toast.

This year the cats have been catching like crazy, and snap traps are set in the house just in case. The snap traps are the only way to go.

Did you bait with peanut butter?

Only chunky peanut butter, they love that stuff for their last meal.

Yeah, you put bait in the back, which is caged (I guess so the can smell it) and when they walk through the front, zap.

They don't even have time to crap, but the trap has to remain dry, or it'll short.

Efficient if you have an annual problem like I do.

Use the zap traps, takes 4 c batteries and kills around 50 rats and mice per set of batteries. After they are dead, throw them outside, they will be a toxin free meal for other animals.

Caught me another fat one!

I made the cat sleep under the house to get them as they come in and reduced the cat food. I also took off the furnace vent covers so the cat can get them that way. When I seal up the furnace vents and under the house for winter I will set out rat poison to protect my food suply and toes. I hate it when they sneak up by your feet at night.

Humane way to terminate mice? The natural way is to let cats do it. They play with them / torture to death, then eat them. I think anything we do would be more humane than that.

I use Fastrac bait blocks. They need to be put into a tamper resistant bait station to keep cat's and dog's out.

can i purchase a cat and leave it up in the attic with litter box and put some food up there for it for mice control?

and some cats are pretty much useless for catching mice

some of them can be EXTREMELY lazy

when the kids would get a new kitten, I would go to the pet store and buy a couple of mice, they learn fast, good to go after that.
