Australian shares extended losses on Monday while the mood in the rest of Asia is likely to be cautious ahead of key Chinese data. Volumes may be light with Japan shut for a public holiday.

Australia's benchmark S&P ASX 200 eased over 1 percent in early trade, hitting a new eight-month low for the second straight session.

Property development firm Stockland dipped 0.4 percent after acquiring a 50 percent stake in a Queensland shopping mall from AMP Capital.
