My maternal grandmother was the only one of three children who survived the Spanish flu, never learned not to live in fear for us g-kids.

My great grandpa died from it as well. He would have been fine but he was winding up his car when it backfired and punctured his lung which of course landed him in the hospital. The hospital is where he contracted it.

Yup! Plenty. And I've helped uncover most of their final resting places among the miners, hospitals, public burying grouds, and fraternal cemetaries through out Colorado, Wyoming, and a smidge of South Dakota.

My father was named for an uncle he never met. That uncle contracted the Spanish 'Flu and died before my father was born. His sister, who was married and living in another town, also died from the Spanish 'Flu. All of this happened on the Ohio/Pennsylvania state line area.

I had two great uncles -brothers- who died of the Spanish Flu in 1918 a few days apart. One was 18. The other 26.

I wonder what the blood types were of the people who survived. Who either never contracted it, or who contracted it and got better. Is there anything to the Rh neg immunity theory?

That was the unique thing about it, people with the strongest immune systems were the ones who tended to die because it was the severity of the bodys reaction that actually did the killing most of the time.

Don't know much about the Spanish flu. Was it widespread, all over the world or just in the US?

It tended to take the healthiest people in the prime of life probably due to cytokine storm.

I am O- and so is my father but I don't know what type my grandma who survived was. Wish I knew!

My Grandfather was a Police Officer in Philadelphia during the 1918 Influenza epidemic that took out so many of our soldiers on the Western Front in World War 1. They brought it back with them and spread it here.
The Police were responsible for picking up the dead bodies and taking them to be cremated, etc. Yet, not one Policeman died from Influenza!
The answer was WHISKEY and SMOKING. (cigars) When they went in to get the body they kept a flask with them and maintained a constant state of buzz. It is also common knowledge that plague survivors who smoked heavily did not get the flu. So as the Police went inside properties they would light up a cigar and make sure there was plenty of smoke around. Even to this day, cops carry cigars to handle the dead because it is the only smell that is stronger than the smell of a rotting corpse.
When a body is dead, the fluids separate, the gases rise out of the blood and eventually your insides explode all over the place. This increases possible transmission.
My advice, follow the police procedures of the past. Drink plenty of Whiskey and smoke cigars.

My grandma survived it as well but her mother and her older brother died, her dad bugged out and she was adopted.

I have read in several places that it was the VACCINE that killed 'em, but it was BLAMED ON THE FLU.

I've read that aspirin is what caused so many deaths - NSAIDs cause cytokines storm.
