Re: OHIOANS THREAD! New Ebola Victim has relatives at KENT STATE UNIVERSITY
After my wife saw the news, she emailed me at work and said "Fuck this. We're staying home all the time now." She works from home and thankfully I work for a very small company where no one ever actually comes into the office. Columbus, Ohio here.
 Quoting: Professor Frink

My daughter is a sophomore at Ohio State. I'm a six-hour drive away. When there is a confirmed case in Ohio, I'm going to get her.

OSU's pandemic preparedness plan says that it will close school for four weeks when a disease having a worldwide cfr of 50% is detected in Ohio. ONE case in Ohio and they will close.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 62408492

I didn't know that policy. Two of my good friends work at OSU Medical Center. I don't plan on seeing them anytime in the near future for obvious reasons.

I'm sick and tired of uncle threads just like everyone else, but this is backed by other threads, so I decided to share my insider knowledge on this issue.

My older brother works at Kent State, and while I won't say his position, he is not a teacher and is higher up in his particular department.

I just received a text from him saying "Kent State is about to release a statement that this woman was visiting relatives, many of whom work at Kent State."

If I get more information, I will inform you all, but my brother thinks these relatives were teachers/professors but he's not sure how many there are.

NO ASPIRIN causes bleeding and with this virus that's a Nono. I'm a nurse.

Ah crap! What about for fever reduction/pain relief (assuming you DON'T have Ebola)?

I kind of hate taking pills, and I don't really trust Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen...always thought Apririn was more "natural" and more "safe."

But I'm obviously no expert and open to the advice.

from www.kentwired.com

Update 4:21 p.m.

"Angela DeJulius, chief university physician at Kent State, said the university has no specific plans to sanitize or cleanse the Kent State faculty members' desks that were relatives of the KSU grad diagnosed with Ebola at this time. DeJulius says not necessary at this point.

DeJulius said because the employes are on a self-monitoring leave, Ebola is very of low low risk to anyone on campus.

She said the university has protocols in place to handle any communicable disease. DeJulius instructed that anyone who has a high fever or any symptoms of Ebola to come to DeWeese Health Center for evaluation."

Jesus. What wrong with wiping down desk with bleach???
How does she know its not necessary????????
Amber was on self monitoring 21 day leave as well from the hospital.

No Worries there! Phew!

SO.....obviously the 3 had desk jobs of some sort..

Don't forget about the cash and coins... she likely handled money and bought stuff and food in the Akron area.

As soon as we know the businesses she visited we can get a better heads up... but in the meantime I will be disinfecting my hands after handling any new cash or coins I get.

Thank you! I'm trying to stay level headed about all of this. I did prep for this though and got a bunch of medical supplies and food to shelter in place. I'm not sure there is more any of us can do. This is just crazy!
Quoting: Do you see what I see

What are you prepping for medical supplies?

I'm grabbing:

Regular aspirin
Anti-dhiarreals
Rubbing alchohol
Hydrogen Peroxide
Bleach
Cold meds
Ice packs
Heating packs
Hand sanitizer
PPE like gloves, respirators, etc.
Antibiotic cream
Typical first aid stuff like bandages, etc.

What am I missing, or should be looking out for?

Want to share my list of essentials with everyone. Going to walmart in a short while to pick some stuff up.

Drinking water, one gallon per person per day
Food, dried goods and canned goods. Non perishables
Heavy duty garbage bags
Sanitation supplies, bleach, peroxide, lemon juice etc
Med Kits
Pandemic Flu Kit
N95 Masks
Nitrile gloves
Safety goggles
Ammo
Olive leaf extract, heard it helps with symptoms
Over the counter medicine, such as anti diahrrehal, melatonin, aspirins, fever medicine etc
Saline
Camping stove
Oil lantern
Cat food

95s are not going to help..

They will not protect from viruses.
They stop particulates around 3microns, a virus is less than 1micron.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47148083

Appreciate it! I will modify the list. I just got back from Walmart.

I am pretty sure the stores are gearing up for everything. You know how they sometimes have those displays with Halloween candy in the fall or sunscreen in the summer in the middle of the aisles. Well when I went to Walmart I noticed ALL of those little displays were BLEACH, CANNED FOODS, MEDICINE, and SANITATION SUPPLIES. I found this very suspicious.

bullshit. at 99 degrees, taken orally or on the forehead, a rectal temp of 100 is likely.

That is fever.

Older people do not mount the same robust high fever as kids.
And others simply have a lower body temperature baseline to begin with.

99 is hot enough for many people to feel the need to lie down and rest - which is one way fever is trying to heal you.

Vitamin C, lots of it. Do not take asprin if you suspect ebola, it thins the blood. Do not stop diarrhea if you suspect ebola, it keeps the virus in the body longer.

Look up Selenium and hemorragic fevers. Careful with that stuff.

IV needles and lactated ringers if you can get them. Need a script for the ringers.

it can take 42 days for people to show signs of ebola.
thats 42 days of kids at Kent to catch it.

42 days from now, those kids all go home for Thanksgiving.

time to take college courses online only.

colleges in tx have already banned kids from africa from attending school there.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22197551

They have not banned students from attending college here in MN. We just got a batch from Sierra Leon and had a staff meeting to discuss concerns.

This university has over 50,000 students. We only need one infected student to cause a disaster. Can you imagine how it will spread with 600 students attending class in just one of the halls. What about the dorms.

Parents you should be concerned. The liberals at the college think the CDC is wise and trustworthy.

I can not give any more details.

I'm in Stow. Tallmadge and Kent are right next to me. I work by the airport and deal with a lot of people who work at the airport and many other highly visited locations on a daily basis. My girlfriend goes to KSU. Never thought shit like this would be so close to home once I moved here from Chicago. Felt safer out here. HA!

Anyways, the area in Tallmadge where this dumb ass stayed is basically cordoned off as a "precautionary" measure. Also, KSU refused to release the names of the 3 faculty. Though I'm sure we'll get those names in a day or 2 somehow.

Agreed. She should be prosecuted as well for her actions imo. I'm not freaking out yet, but I would be willing to bet that she has infected 1-5 people on her visit. Either at her parents house or in the airport leaving here. And from there....who knows.
