I feel good about knowing what food, medical supplies, other supplies, camping gear, etc., but I just feel weird about putting water in containers for extended periods of time. However, if TSHTF and water plants close, boy it would sure be nice to have water put away. I do realize I need a water filter, too, but those seem so expensive and confusing. |

Buckets? Bottles? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1266386 If you have a bathtub get a water bob [link to www.waterbob.com] Water is heavy - 8 pounds / gallon so plastic is good you can reuse food safe plastic bottles that have held soda, juice, iced tea etc for drinking water Do not reuse plastic milk bottles you cannot get them clean Camping stores and megamarts sell 5 gallon water storage that is collapsible [link to www.amazon.com] If you have a pool or a hot tub you already have a great big supply of non drinking water. (I miss my pool) |

Wash them in a soap/bleach solution, rinse, air dry upsidedown, fill with water, and finally add a drop of plain (not "scented") bleach. Store in a cool, dark place - even better, put them in your freezer if you have room- in this way you will have both emergency ice and water, and it will make your freezer work more efficiently. Remember, also, that your hot water heater contains a tank with water. Water Bobs (plastic bladders that fit in a bathtub) are nice, too. Good luck. |
