"Gloves, gown and a face mask": Image of Ebola screening/isolation/protection procedure recently distributed at a Texas hospital
Apparently hospitals are not revising their safety procedures in consideration of the events at Texas Health Presbyterian. Medical staff are going to continue getting infected.

Someone I know shared a photo with me of the Ebola screening procedure at the hospital she works at. This is from a hospital in Southeast Texas.

I've blacked-out the name of the hospital at the bottom-right to prevent any bullshit that might lead to this person being fired for sharing this.

Here it is:
[link to www.imagebam.com]

"ED screening criteria for patient isolation/testing includes:

-Fever, headache, join and muscle aches, weakness, fatigue, diarrhea, vomiting, stomach pain and lack of appetite and bleeding (in some cases)

AND

Travel to West Africa (Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone or other countries where EVD transmission has been reported by WHO) within ... to 13 weeks) of symptom onset.

If both criteria are met
-Place surgical mask on the patient (take them to) private room with a potty chair or bathroom (ED24 or ED25)
-Implement STANDARD CONTACT AVOIDANCE precautions (gloves, gown, mask with face shield)"

So, they aren't even considering that people who haven't traveled to West Africa might be infected. They aren't donning bio-hazard suits. They're just putting on standard avoidance garb, sticking a face mask on the patient and taking them to a room with a toilet.

Wonderful.

These ebola cases are revealing how unprepared our health care system is . I used to be an EMT and a cna. People are not trained for this sort of thing and your kind of treated as expendable. That's why I'm not surprised that these nurses contracted the virus. Ebola should not be a problem in the U.S but it may become one due to incompetence and ignorance.
