The short story is I told the boss his nephew the manager been stealing from the business, had proof and all the other workers knew it too....He fired me and the nephew....whistleblower syndrome I guess....

I worked for a small company and one day we had this meeting where the boss announced we were going to have to lose a day's pay because they didn't have enough money to make payroll.
Our boss had just bought himself a new king cab pickup truck so I knew where our money went. At the end of his little speech he asked "any questions?".
I said: "yeah, are we getting dicked here?"
His face turned plum red, it was priceless.
Turns out he was embezzling from the company to pay for phone sex - over 100G worth of phone sex. He's lucky I didn't beat the fuck out of him. He got his in the end, prison time that is.

Yes, when I feel strongly it's the right thing to do.

Although I do care about myself, it's not the only thing I care about and not all my decisions are self-serving.

It gives me meaning to my life to do things that I think are the right thing to do and which may make the world a little bit better, even in a very small way sometimes. I feel good about myself when I do that so there's a benefit to myself too.

What I mean is, if she(?) was partially hoping you would give her advice just as a way for you two to bond, because she's interested in you, and you are also in fact interested in her, shutting down the conversation topic does not share the whole meta-truth ("I am interested in you, too). But you could make up for that by showing you are interested in her in another way.

I just don't like being told what to do. It really irritates me. I have always been responsible, never arrested, don't cause trouble. I do well at self policing, so I feel I don't need to be told what to do. It really annoys me. lol
