IS OIL PART OF EARTH'S CLIMATE CONTROL MECHANISM?
in addition to the oceans and the rainforests, do oil deposits play a part in climatic stability? mb thats oil's real purpose; it absorbs the heat of the sun, an is able to help keep the warming/cooling of the earth in balance. so then we suck out all the coolant. maybe thats why earth's weather is beginning to swing wildly out of control, with more extremes of both heat and cold.

Why does oil have to have a "purpose"?

Maybe it's the BURNING of all that oil that is affecting the climate...!

NO SERIOUSLY IT MAKES SENSE, THE UPPER CRUST AND LAND IS QUARTZ AND CRYSTAL AND WATER AND METALS AND ORE,HIGH VISCOSITY AND THICK COOLING OIL WOULD COOL AND ABSORBE AND GREESE EVERYTHING,INDEED PUMPING IT OUT TO THE SURFACE WOULD BE BAD AND BURNING IT EVEN WORSE,I BELEIVE YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT OP

Uh, the entire earth IS one big "climate control mechanism".

And I daresay the oceans have about 10 billion times more "climate control" potential than oil ever could or would. The water in all the oceans is one humongous heat sink when you think about it... a temperature regulator.

Re: IS OIL PART OF EARTH'S CLIMATE CONTROL MECHANISM?
Well .. compare the amount of water being pumped out of ancient aquifers each year compared to the amount of oil being extracted .. its a factor of 10,000 ... then compare the latent heat capacity of water vs. oil (water can absord much more heat).

A shortage of freshwater is becoming a global crisis. Aquifers in China, India and the USA are dropping by tens of meters each year. China, in particular, is facing an imminent crisis. Their rice production is already plummeting.

my theory is that as the tectonic plates move it is useful to have lubricant. earth is built in a particular way because it works that way. all this futzing with her during a global heating cycle will trigger a release of the heat, somehow. sfan
