Plus the operator is controlling the robots steps. This robot does not have the intellect to maneuver itself through any obstacle. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1230294 I think it could be built in a different manner. According to the calculation I just made, a human body (2000 kcal diet) eats 2,3 KWh a day. So robot could potentially be made and use similar amount. But lets forget that we have an immune system and brain that consumes a lot of energy.. Lets use all that for motion. Then.. A li-ion battery (18650) with say 10Wh, weight is about 40gram For one day, you would need 230 of these batteries. 230 * 0.04 (kg) = about 9 Kg (20 lbs) I say doable. |

This thing consumes terawats of energy and thats the main problem. Not the robot tech itself which can be very advanced but the power source required to make it autonomous. If you fail to make the autonomous then the whole tech is useless. |

It means that thing doesn't have balance. The real breakthrough its its lower joints that understand the terain and its making autonomous decisions on where and how to walk. Or so they tell us.. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 64156397 any UK people remember 'remote control on a wire'... ffs... we went to the moon in 1969....yeah right.... All they need to do is stick a power source on it's back, or where ever, and it won't need those cords. Like a battery pack, except with some high tech energy source that can keep the thing running for awhile. That is why a breakthrough in batteries or small energy sources will be a closely kept military secret "If there is a new fascism, it won't come from skinheads and punks; it will come from people who eat granola and think they know how the world should be." - Brian Eno |

Petman's stability comes by the attachment of 5+ cables and though this robot is more stable, he's also slow, uses insane amounts of energy, and isn't capable of conscious thought. At least not yet. When that happens, I will be more alarmed. Trying to bring GLP together. I'm still collecting flags from posters all over the world. Thread: Official "Flags from around the world" thread. I have no connection to this work but this much is obvious. Example: Using a nuclear core power source would slow down testing to a crawl due to regulations, triple checks, containment, etc. Or using phosphene capacitors which can hold more then the best batteries out there. But they also could discharge at once if not controlled properly. I bet the other components are being worked on down the hall. |

Quoting: IDL I have no doubt that there are power sources that they could use when they establish the police state and no longer need to worry about it. You are right. Even if they discover a portable high power source they would never dare to roll out these robots in public because they must maintain the lie of low power tech people are forced to use today. Another thing is that they make those things expensive for a reason. For instance rare earths materials are expensive and if they focus their research towards expensive materials instead of something really cheap abundand everywhere then this technology is out of reach for the masses. Otherwise the Overlords rolling out those machines in the future wouldn't have any real advantage over the masses. |

For instance if you are walking and a guy runs up to bumrush you and knock you down, you will react and shift weight, use certain muscles to fend off the impact, there is a ton of energy and decisions going on in just that tiny second. They can barely make a robot who walks, and they have been working on it for decades. All of the problems, including power source, intuition, split second decisions, etc. These are relegated to a sci fi movie. |
