Another good one is The Tingler with Vincent Price. They would wire the theater seats and give small electric vibrations at appropriate times in the movie. LOL
Also I forgot The Fly with Vinnie Price, too.

"The Tingler" was fucking epic! The ultimate Vinny B-movie!

Yep, it sure was!

As a child, I love watching the all night horror movies on Saturday nights. I think it was The Beast with Five Fingers that had a disclaimer that it was not the producer's fault if viewers died of fright while watching the movie. I kept checking my pulse, lol.

These 2 scared the heck out of me:
Invaders from Mars
The Beast with Five Fingers

In high school, I saw The Exorcist. It scared me so much that I have not watched a horror movie since.

I'm looking for some of the not so obvious titles that we all know about like Night of the Living Dead, Psycho, The Birds etc

Maybe not so much gore but psychological horror and frightful movies.

From the 70's, Race with the Devil with Peter Fonda, Warren Oates, Loretta Swit and Lara Parker.

Two couples in a RV stumble across a satanic sacrifice and end up being chased across the country. It was very creepy when I was a kid and still holds up pretty well.

It's not on netflix but I've found it on youtube.

Also from the 70's, The World Beyond. A golum made of mud terrorizes a couple on a remote island. Also not on netflix, but on youtube.

There was a movie, can't remember the title, but it was a black and white film about a hand crawling around. Freaked me out as a young kid.

the exorcist. At 12, I slept with a light on for weeks!
Jaws: Saw that when we were on vacation in South Padre. bad move.

The Birds was a good one, as was Pit and the Pendulum. Hitchcock was a master!! Oh, what he could have done with modern movie making.

cheers

Carpenter's original Halloween is the grand-daddy of most of today's slasher genre, but was far more subtle in terms of gore vs. the unseen fear and he lets the suspense build and build. Some would credit "Psycho" as perhaps the great-grandaddy.

Everything today that I see is pale imitation with ramped up gore to the point of desensitizing the viewer. Like other genres the producers took it so far with endless sequels that the whole thing has no real shock value left. How are they going to top that? They have reached the point that beyond gore and shock value they can't. Rob Zombie did a decent remake but tried a sequel and it flopped.

Forgive me if these has been mentioned - but

The Changeling
Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things
Tourist Trap

and I remember when I was little, this One Step Beyond scared the cr@p out of me -

The Dead Part of the House

Also, there was a series on Friday nights when I was young growing up in NY - unfortunately I cannot remember the name. I think it came on at 8:00. If anyone has a memory of this, I would love to know the name to see if it is available now.

There was one that came out in the late 70's that scared the daylights out of me. There is no way I'm going to name it because it was pure evil... 5 X worse than the exorcist imo.

All I will say about it is that it hasn't been listed on this thread yet.
