Quit. Cold. Turkey.

Oh, and buy some Kratom. If you don't know what that is look it up. Will help you in the first coming week overcoming what might be a miserable existence.

And for those idiots saying buy an E-cig your just using a different method of providing nicotine for you're body. The OP asked how to quit cigarettes; not prolong the bodies need for nicotine using another outlet.

Jerks.

Actually no because you can use the 0 nicotine liquid which is what I do.

Smoke a pipe with real pipe tobacco. Its more satisfying, cheaper and you look like someone intelligent.
'At this time also the Jews began war, because they were forbidden to mutilate their genitals. (quot vetabantur mutilare genitalia) ~Historia Augusta:

For to that faculty in us which is unreasonable and disordered and violent, and does not come from the gods, but from evil spirits, the ancients gave the name Titans, that is to say, those that are punished and subjected to correction.~ Plutarch.

HOW TO QUIT SMOKING?
Reduce tobacco craving

Die. If you quit smoking, do you think you will live forever? You will die no matter what. Who wants to die healthy? If you quit smoking, do you think a few extra years of life is worth it? Those who live long or those who die young, lose the same thing, the present moment. Smoking keeps your body free of brain parasites.

It keeps you from over eating and it keeps you in better control.

The world was in the dark ages before caffeine and nicotine.

Switch to pipe smoking with real pipe tobacco like captian black. It does not leave you brain fogged like cigs do, because of all the chemicals.

Re: HOW TO QUIT SMOKING?
I have been tobacco-free for 5 years after smoking 30+ years. I cut down to 5 a day then gradually down to 1 a day. It took a year for me to brainwash myself. Repeating that I was a non-smoker, putting butts in a jar with water and smelling it, looking at myself in a mirror while smoking, looking at old people smoking with deep wrinkles, remembering how my parents suffered before they died of smoking related diseases, figuring out what my triggers were and how to avoid them.

When I came to the quit day, I replaced smoking with drinking ice water and visualized the cool refreshing water going down my throat like a clear, clean waterfall instead of hot nasty smoke. The urge to smoke will go away whether you smoke or not. Setting up a mindset that I am stronger than tobacco and proving it. Staying away from alcohol, people who smoke, parties for the first month helped. You will not be successful unless you are doing it because you really want to do it. It is a gift you are giving yourself. It's nice if you want to do it because of your children, significant other, work, etc. but it has to be your choice and stick to it. Good luck!

We all die of suffocation. It is much worse when we know we are the cause of it and not some other organ failure.

The strongest control a man can make is to not replace his alcohol addiction with AA, but to control his drinking to two drinks every month or so, and smoking to not be denied but to only smoke two or three a day - or four or none at all. Control of ones self is true power.

I quit altogether but allowed myself to enjoy second hand smoke and a little pot. But NO tobacco intake myself. After ten years of smoking I went ten without and gained so much self confidence and feeling of control and conviction that i crated a 10 million dollar a year business. I took a drag off a smoke one day, after 10 years, after borrowing a lit cig to cut some fishing line. My hard rules caused me to fail bigtime and soon I was a full time smoker again. Eight years later I quit for eight years. Then all shit broke loose in many ways so I smoked.... until know, at age 57, I hate it. I hate the way i feel in the morning. Out of the 5 or 6 I smoke a day I have cut down to what I find in butts in front of a store.
Drinking. I was a highly fuctional alcoholic for 30 years. I had hep C 18 of those years. I fell off a cliff called look out rock, used for properlling with the second bottle of Wild Turkey in my hand. I ran towards the edge and twirled and grasp at a weed and fell over 100ft. onto a slab of rock. My party, girlfirend, firend and his girl, found there way down a path and found me unconciouss. I awoke, my hip snapped loudly into place as I stood up and stated I wasnt getting into a ny fucking ambulance. I ran, ran up the trail. The girl who went for help broke her arm. The hospital was taken to did not believe I fell off the cliff but probably fell down the path. I was barfing from the concussion and diagnoised as drunk and sent home.
The next morning the crew arived plus some others. I was still drunk at 7am and was hoppling around on a cane feeling pretty cocky. They finally all left and I was alone. I heard funeral music in the background and my mother crying. I was changed. I never took those chances again - as I always walked bridge railings, climbed radio towers, and raced my 67 GTX with bald tires at 140.
The next morning I was in more pain than I have ever been in. I was in bed for 4 months at home with a broken sternum, cracked hip, dislocated hip, etc. I had to pull my head up each morning by my hair and take the percoset, wait 30 minutes, then, after a couple months, get up. I could not work for nearly a year. Everytime I excerted myself I lost all breath. Due to Hep C I swithched to stonger opiates that would not affect my liver. The opiates stopped my drinking. Twenty five years later I am alive but i am an opiate addict that gets no happiness out of live without induced dolphime.
I swung way too far in that direction and have worked my way down from taking 10 80 mg oxy in one shot, and still not getting out of withdraw, to 4 x 4mg dididud without any backup, like the 14 methadone I was taking with 8 8mg dididud each day. Due to some real suffering, a 45 day stay in a 10 step brain washing institution, and a subsequesnt suicide attempt where I took 151 10mg methadone, 50 30 mg oxycodone in one shot, and 2 xanax (10 I would be dead) I finally got my nod which I had been missing for years. The suicide was from a complete loss of happiness or hope.
I have found that dont ever take anything addictive more than you absolutly have to. You will find happiness at that point and your meds will work much better.
Good luck. Bad addictions can be replaced with good habits but all men need a bad addiction or habit to define their good.

Re: HOW TO QUIT SMOKING?
You have to want to quit, which is not easy. I smoke a pack a day and have smoked for about 11 years, and what I discovered was that I wanted to smoke more than I wanted to quit. I dont know about addiction, I dont know about patches and ecigs and gum... I just know that I want to smoke, so I smoke.
