Health Share? instead of insurance?
My cobra health insurance ended. I was paying 1K per month for myself and my 12yo daughter. This happened in the middle of obamacare and finding health insurance was impossible.

Now I've gone a whole 24 months without insurance. We are very healthy, eat well, take supplements, etc.. .

Because I've been horribly screwed over by insurance companies in my younger life, I hate to pay the piper.
My daughter had a minor fall 4 months ago and broke her arm. I paid out of pocket, nearly 800.00 (it only required 4 weeks in a cast - yes, I was lucky, she was lucky) but as soon as I announced I was 'self-pay' at the doctor's windows, they immediately discounted my invoice about 40%, maybe more, and I wrote a check each time when we left the office.

I figure I've saved 24K. Yes, I know, I know. All of you who want to tell me that something major could have happened did not live in my shoes the many years of my young life when a very scary pre-existing condition which was not covered under the insurance I paid mega bucks for hung over my head. (Which also necessitated me being self employed, so I could take the time for medical needs, also).

So I've checked into Health sharing. My cost would be under $300.00 per month for both of us. We pay all normal costs, they don't kick in until something gets major. Yep, it's accepted by the IRS as an insurance substitute for religious reasons. Nope, I'm not religious about anything except taking excellent care of us.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I'm wondering the same thing here, as we may need to make some big employment changes soon, and face providing coverage for our family.

They have a team which talks to and gets reduced costs from health providers, just like what I did personally.

I can get up to 1 million dollars coverage for 1/3rd of what I was paying.

So far, I can't find any bad stories about this. What am I missing?

This seems like what everyone should be doing.

Re: Health Share? instead of insurance?
Health insurance companies were real as#holes about eliminating coverage for pre-existing, back when I needed it so badly. So I spent years paying out of pocket and finding alternatives. They were also real as#holes about denying costs that they should have paid. I spent half my life fighting, filing grievances, going through the 2 denial process until it went to appeal, and then they'd maybe pay.

Or not.
