If their claim is true that the kid had been spouting off that he had ebola and so they wanted to teach him a lesson . . . it's stupid because it equates to a kid crying wolf and then parents doing the same thing, which would teach the kid NOTHING useful.

They should have sat his butt down and explained how serious and deadly ebola can be and that it is NEVER, EVER ok to joke about anything like that.

What they did was not only stupid, they also made a "joke" out of lying and being dishonest.
