My first thought is the secret space program does not want the public in space. so like the challenger it go boom!

To the difference that Virgin Galactic is not really Space Flight - does not go into LEO Low Earth Orbit.

Virgin Galactic are short duration suborbital trips.

abduct

Airbus Defence and Space are also working on their own Space plane project called EADS Astrium TBN.

This would get my vote!

Poorly regulated and Mr. Branson took great, unnecessary risks directly impacting safety. Anyone who flies on one of his space ships needs their head examined. The only reason Virgin is safe to fly on is because airlines and air travel are well regulated and monitored. The whole thing reflects very badly on Mr. Branson's judgement and ethics.

You pussy.

Folks like you would have shit your pants over safety issues in projects like the X1, X15, Mercury, Vostok, Gemini etc..

With attitudes like yours, we would still be using boats to cross the worlds oceans, oh wait they sink too... looks like we should just stay home and hide under the blankets.

The human race owes much to the fact that no matter how many vehicles spontaneously explode, there will always be bad ass men and women in crew cuts and green jackets who push the regulators and lawyers aside and yell I'm next!

Re: Branson spaceship explosion: The 'missed' warnings
This goes back to the Ansari X-Prize and SpaceShipOne. It's not Branson's fault that the design carried over flaws from the earlier prototype. Doug Messier wrote an awesome piece on it. (published the night before the crash)

[link to www.parabolicarc.com]
 Quoting: I7redd

Messier wrote an open letter to Virgin Galactic in May of 2014 that pretty much predicted this would happen, and the PR/astronaut liason was not being honest with its ticketholders. He had also found out the PR person had trashed his rep for bringing these questions up during an appearance on The Space Show, on a private forum called SpaceBook, which is only for people who have already bought tickets. Someone tipped him off and sent him screenshots of what she wrote. Details of failed tests are incredibly telling.

"The video that you mention was of ground test that Sierra Nevada conducted on the rubber-nitrous engine down in Poway back in December. The burn lasted for about 55 seconds and looked very stable. It’s little wonder Virgin Galactic released the video; it looked good.

The reason the burn was so stable is because engineers added helium to it to dampen out the oscillations. A lot of helium. More than could ever be placed aboard SpaceShipTwo. The burn was not indicative of results that could be achieved in flight..."

"This space travel stuff is serious business. It’s dangerous. Its unpredictable. There are a lot of unknowns. Accidents are inevitable. Those are immutable realities that no amount of hype can change.

You’ve got people paying up to a quarter million dollars to sit on first generation rocket ships. To do so, they have to sign a waiver that relinquishes most of their rights to sue Virgin Galactic, The Spaceship Company, and almost any other organization involved with the flights. In exchange for that, they need to be able to trust what you tell them. They need to hear the truth from you — about the status of the program, what Virgin Galactic can and can’t deliver, the risks they face, and the consequences of a bad day.

I’m not seeing much of that here. Instead, there’s been a virtual fire hose of hype for the past decade filled with promises and reassurances too often at odds with the realities here in Mojave and the challenges that lie ahead. To that Virgin has added a toxic mix of public obfuscations to the media and stealth personal attacks on anyone who questions the official line.

Virgin Galactic views itself as the leader of the emerging space tourism industry. It needs to start acting like one."

We are not at war. There is no dire circumstance that would account for Branson taking such unnecessary risks with the safety of crew, passengers, those on the ground, first responders, etc. And he just wasted a shit load of $, including taxpayer $, and has badly tarnished company and the burgeoning civilian sub orbital space travel industry. This is hideous PR.

Is the company public? How are their stock doing?

You are obviously not an engineer, not a pilot and not yet living outside the womb of your parents' house.

Public relations deadlines have no place in applications such as this. Sometimes we get lucky and sometimes our luck runs out, but never is negligence such a factor.

In the case of Branson's project, he ignored data that would have caused NASA, the Air Force and even the Russians to scrap everything and go back to the drawing board.

They proceeded on this when the chief engineer - the only person who truly understood the design - had retired. All data pointed to the idea being unsound, but Branson demanded "results" for the sake of business profits.

I suspect there were also several neophyte engineers who wanted to keep their jobs and said "yes" a few too many times, when they should have said "fuck no, that fucker will blow up if we do that."

The main problem here is Branson's ego.

He should have followed my advice and planted trees instead, leaving space flight to those with unlimited budgets. It's the only way...

Right, and the first pressurized passenger jet made it all the way past the airworthiness certificate and was carrying fare paying passengers when they disintegrated during flight, twice.

Did that stop air travel in its tracks?

On the first flight of soyuz, the test pilot was killed, he knew his ship was doomed before he took off, he talked about it openly (unprecedented in the soviet union) and he took the flight anyway to keep his friend from having to do it.

The result was a major cover up, the death of both Komorov and his friend and ultimately the safest manned spacecraft ever built. It is said that the FAA regs are written in blood, we bleed, but keep moving forward.

Re: Branson spaceship explosion: The 'missed' warnings
Sir Richard Branson's space tourism company Virgin Galactic has been accused of ignoring a series of warnings that its $500 million rocket was unsafe for flight.

A number of senior aerospace engineers repeatedly voiced fears over the design of Sir Richard’s SpaceShipTwo and the safety protocols surrounding its testing.

The Telegraph has seen emails and other documents in the public domain — dating back several years, and as recently as last year — in which the engineers warned of the dangers of Virgin Galactic’s rocket engine system.

It also emerged on Saturday that three senior Virgin Galactic executives — the vice-president in charge of propulsion, the vice-president in charge of safety, and the chief aerodynamics engineer — had all quit the company in recent months.

The warnings you mention were not missed.

They were working with a new engine and fuel.

They had paid attention.

The problem could be better summarized as they hadn't adequately tested new components.

Re: Branson spaceship explosion: The 'missed' warnings
Stinks to low hell of the Elite's planned obsolescence blended with the advertised illusion of public space travel. Murder for money.

The epitome of the Elite "Builders" ignorance is BUILDING WITHOUT INTEGRITY, despite having all the power, money, resources, and hired intelligence to do so.

Edison's early light bulbs haven't stopped producing light.

How ironic that the Elite worship Lucifer, the Light Bringer, yet they only produce darkness. Idol1

Engines used weren't properly tested.

And how old are you? 15?

Gagarin and Sheppard both watch there launch vehicles explode on the pad just days before during the tests that you hold in such high value. Both eagerly climbed aboard the very next one in the production line and made history.

flight testing and spaceflight are hazardous jobs, those who sign up are prepared to give their lives for the dreams of humanity, in spite of failure.

What are you, some kind if sentimental moran? Are you for real? Trolling? Those astronauts couldn't just sign on and off at will. Life is a lot more complicated than you make it sound.
You get on the craft next time, if there is a next time. And it's one thing to take risks involving test pilots for government-military craft, another involving civilian pleasure seekers.

Any crew member who does not wish to fly against their will simply violates any one of the hundreds of medical prerequisites and they are scrubbed from the flight, nobody is forced to crew a spacecraft against their will.
