Why are AMERICANS so obsessed with raking leaves?

I mulch my leaves. Much easier and good for the lawn.

It's a cultural thing. Europeans have gardens, Americans only have lawns.

Fire control is my reason why I get them away from the house.

Leaves all over the garden is fucking untidy. I raked up two sackfuls today and my lawn looks great.

If there's leaves in my house I sweep them up, if they are on the ground where they belong I leaf them lay.

It can be a good, low impact, low stress exercise. gets you in shape for shoveling.

The real question is: why are they so obsessed with their lawns?

Shoveling snow is another waste of time and energy...the shit melts away eventually...now if you live in Alaska or Siberia then shoveling makes more sense.

I watched the leaves blow off the trees this morning and wondered the same thing.

It really makes no sense to fight against Mother Nature.
She wants the leaves to go back into the earth to propagate new generations of life. And the American Way is to use an ear-splitting leaf blower to prevent this fertilization from taking place??

There are many whom bag and mulch and use in gardening. Why is it that you have not moved there already?

It makes it easier on oldsters and youngsters to walk. It also makes it easier on everybody if you can prevent ice forming in thaw/refreeze situations.

Same here. Get the leaf blower out, clean off the front and back porches, blow them out in the yard and mow 'em.

Many reasons, but mainly to fuck with you.

Hell ive been even getting the neighbors' leaves so I can mulch and composte into the garden. Did you try and hug a tree and it pushed you away?
