Traces of radiation from Fukushima detected off California
The first faint traces of radioactivity in the ocean from the Fukushima nuclear disaster have been detected 100 miles off Eureka, a scientist who has been monitoring radiation levels across the Pacific reported Monday.

The levels of the radioactive element Cesium-134 were far lower than any radiation that would pose a threat to human or marine life, said Ken Buesseler, a nuclear chemist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on Cape Cod.

The radioactivity was detected in samples of ocean water volunteers aboard a research vessel from the Moss Landing Marine Laboratory in Monterey County collected last August. The samples were sent for analysis to Buesseler’s lab at Woods Hole.

Buesserler’s findings confirmed a report last February by Canadian scientists who found similar faint traces of radioactivity in the ocean off British Columbia.

Scientists count levels of radioactivity in units called becquerels, and when Buesseler and his colleagues first reported radioactivity in the water off Fukushima, they counted tens of millions of becquerels in a single cubic meter of water, he said

Re: Traces of radiation from Fukushima detected off California
Isotopes linked to Japan's wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant have been found by oceanographers off the California's coast. The level detected is much lower than the one that can pose a measurable health risk, but still it is a matter of concern.

This radiation was detected by the volunteer ocean monitors when they collected the samples about 100 miles (160 kilometers) west of Eureka, California. The samples were collected last August by ocean water volunteers aboard a research vessel from the Moss Landing Marine Laboratory in Monterey County.

These were then tested by the Massachusetts-based Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. On its website, the institute reported that the samples tested positive for trace amounts of the isotope cesium-134. These findings by the Woods Institute confirmed a report that was released last February by Canadian scientists. This report too found similar faint traces of radioactivity in the ocean off British Columbia.

Re: Traces of radiation from Fukushima detected off California
FACT: K. Buesseler is a oceanographer, I have seen no one anywhere else portray him as a "nuclear chemist" Here is his CV with respect to:
Education

B.A. University of California, San Diego, 1981, Biochemistry/ Cell Biology
Ph.D. MIT/WHOI Joint Program, 1986, Marine Chemistry

FACT: They are testing for Cs134/137--but NOT PLUTONIUM OR URANIUM--can't do that then people would KNOW 1.reactors blew up in the midst of criticality, and 2. WHAT THE HELL was Plutonium doin in those reactors 3. Japan has been producing nuclear grade U235/Pu239 for quite sometime now--all against their Constitution and IAEA oversight.

FACT:They say "trace" amounts of radioactivity found 100 miles of coast(testing for cs134--but they DO NOT TEST for the other 2000 radioactive isotopes that were released. If they did, the report of how much radioactivity IS ACTUALLY there would dumfound the world.

FACT: NOTHING is said about the bio-magnification or bio-accumulation of radioactivity UP the food chain. So to minimize numbers they focus on the BOTTOM of the food chain(phytoplankton) but if you measure the dose at the top, like where tuna and killer whales are, it is orders of magnitude HIGHER--think about this for a minute--humans share that pinnacle with top predators-- the rad dose when eating after the bio magnification is astounding!!!!!--and cumulative!!!!!! Meaning once INSIDE you it NEVER gets out.

FACT: the worldwide incidence post FUKU of ALL cancers has gone from 1:3500(men) 1:2500(female) to 1:3(male) and 1:2(female)--THINK ABOUT THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FACT: There is no technology, even in its infancy, that can stop this or shut it off at FUKU--this will literally go one for the next BILLION YEARS--this is the truth they do not want you to know. There is NO cleanup possible.

FACT: they presume to "comfort" the masses by testing seawater and eventually, release heavily redacted reports--NO ONE DRINKS SEAWATER--but they DO EAT TUNA--but they won't test them

FACT: The US was inundated with radioactivity within weeks if not days(airborne) by the results of the FUKU accident. This has been completely swept under the rug by the nuclear industry.

FACT: Since 2/6 of this year, the US has had its "own" FUKU in New Mexico at the only nuclear waste disposal plant in the US read up about the WIPP site--both of these sites, WIPP and FUKU continue on a day to day basis to emit lethal radiation.

FACT: The rate of thyroid cancer in the northern hemisphere has gone off the scale compared to pre-FUKU.

FACT: This world ending technology--it MUST BE STOPPED. Nuclear FISSION is killing us all

Couldn't let the post go by without setting the record straight--nothing but lies and misdirection comes from the mouth of TEPCO, and/or the nuclear apologists.

FACT: You can learn far more about what is really going on (not to mention truthful analysis) by visiting and reading ENENEWS, Helen Caldicott, RADCHICK(YT), or Dana Durford, "the Nuclear Proctologist"

You really need to inform yourself about what they are hiding in plain sight. Notice those pinks and oranges in the skies at sunset/sunrise? THAT IS ABNORMAL--it is radioactive isotopes--for those of us old enough to remember, didn't we used to live under blue skies?

@ Bodiless,

when you are "so smart" why do you not go there,
collect some Samples and Test everything for everything?

It is easy to be noisy about Ken Buesseler but at least he is doing something, this is much more than you & Friends do Flower

Your whole Posting is "Hot Air" but nothing from Substance,
from Plutonium to the rate of Cancer, no source- no claim= Bs.!

Because I'm not a dumbass, you claim there is no problem or a very very little one so YOU SHOULD GO THERE!

So Smart? No not especially, I just have about 25 years experience with ionizing radiation, know the risks, and am flabberghasted at the lies being told--but then obviously, I'm awake to it, and you are not--more likely, you are a shill.

Proof of that--why that's easy--you didn't bother to refute A SINGLE THING, but you did try to pull out some butthurt on me--typical shill response in the face of FACTS!!!

Ken is doing something? Yeah he is--minimizing the risks to put the masses asleep.

Sources? yeah I left several at the end of my post--but it was probably bed time by the time you got to that part of the post and mommy had to put you to bed with a bottle.

Want more proof ? Try reading up on what has befallen the sailors of the USS RONALD REAGAN--nuff said.

Actually we do, this is the Reason why i know that he (K. Buesseler)
is right, Fukushima is still a big Topic for everyone here in Japan
and literally every University have Group, Classes and running Studies
about this Issue!

There is no other Country in the World where so many People
"investigate" a Industrial Accident, a Human Disaster (Evacuation)
and a environmental Damage like here in Nihon
and People like you,
who think they have eaten all the knowledge and wisdom,
should understand it
because your stupidity and ignorance do not change anything,
imo. all your Lies are working even pro-nuclear
because they are so easy to debunk!

Japan's Reports on Conditions at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station

On 12 November 2014, the Nuclear Regulation Authority (NRA) of Japan provided the IAEA with an update on radioactivity in seawater at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (NPS).

The update on the daily monitoring by TEPCO of seawater near the Fukushima Daiichi NPS indicates that the concentrations of all radionuclides (i.e. Cs-134, Cs-137, total Beta and H-3) remained low and stable from 2 to 8 October 2014 at the sampling points T-1 and T-2-1.

1. Your government has sponsored and helped facilitate the lies TEPCO has been reporting since day one--they can't afford to loose the export dollars of seeding out Nuc power--conflict of interest to the Japanese public

2.try telling your bullshit rebuttals to the sailors of the Ronald Reagan

3. All of my info is publicly accessible and documented--to continue to use TEPCO as a "reliable" source of info when they have been outed as liars(even by their own employees is contemptible.

I hope you someday learn the error of what you are thinking, and get out of Japan--for your sake and your children. Until then, you just keep on thinking what you want--time will prove me correct.

Any worthwhile government would be testing thoroughly and reporting the tests, Canadian and US govs are so beholden to nuclear industry interests (not to mention Pacific fisheries), they're absolutely useless and don't protect their citizens.

I'm appalled all we are left with is a few research vessels relying on donations and educated guesses to do a rare sample here and there on our whole continent's behalf. First world countries, democracies? Yeah, right.
