Anonymous Coward User ID: 65078999 United States 11/12/2014 02:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The family of Thomas Eric Duncan, the Liberian man who died of Ebola in Dallas last month, said Tuesday that it has settled with the hospital that initially sent him home when he arrived sick. Quoting: Lamplite Terms of the settlement were not disclosed. Les Weisbrod, a lawyer for the family, said that it would be enough to “take care” of Duncan’s parents and his four children, who range in age from 12 to 22. He also said the hospital was not charging the family for the care. The company that owns Texas Health Presbyterian, the hospital where Duncan died, will also create a charitable trust for Ebola victims in Africa, he said. more at link less than 50 % [link to www.nbcnews.com] Thread: Dallas Ebola Victim’s Family Reaches Agreement With Hospital |

There wouldn't be a legal settlement if it was faked. Sorry Ebola hoax tards. Now, if we compare it to Sandy Hook, we see no law suits after almost two years. See the difference ? |

If there was such easy money to be made, lawyers would be lined up to take these cases pro-bono. Yet thousands die every year because of misdiagnosis. Families left with all the medical bills. The medical industry kills many thousands every year. Yet they still make enormous profits. Do you think this would be possible if it was as easy to collect $$$ like the Duncan family just did? Of course not. |

I see your point and agree with the hoax/non hoax aspect. I will add though that at sandy hook the federal govt set up a trust for the victims and the victims families. Many different branches of govt contributed millions upon millions for the families so there really was no need to to sue because it would likely preclude you from instant collection from the slush fund. I agree SH was a hoax but the lawsuit part doesn't excite me because they had a much quicker way to access money from their "tragedy." |

That is 160,000 from JUST 1 YEAR. They paid out on a tiny fraction- 350,000 over 25 years. That is ONLY 14,000 a year. That is NOTHING in comparison to the 160,000 EVERY Year (as quoted above). |

Well I suppose that's not surprising. My issue was with people saying it was a bunk lawsuit, it's not. Of course all people who are impacted by incompetence at a hospital should have legal recourse. |
