Got another "Microsoft" call today
Yes, it's the 3rd time they called me in the last 2 or so months. Anyone else get these? Sometimes I have fun with them, like today.

Some lady was saying I had a serious virus problem that even infected my work computers. I told her that IT handles the work computers -- I have no say over them, but then I told her "No, my computer does not have a virus." "Oh but it does!" she insisted. I then smugly and assuredly said, "my computer absolutely, positively does not get viruses and you are wrong. It's impossible."

She put me on with her supervisor who insisted I get to my computer to "show me" my bad virus. I asked the supervisor "Aren't we making just one assumption here? That is I'm dumb enough like the rest of the population to even own a Microsoft computer!" I continued hollering back, "This household runs Linux so you did not detect any virus. You're a crook, so hang up now. Just hang up or I'll report you." to which the other end was silent.

BTW, this is true, our household runs all the Linux or linux based OS's that don't get malware such as Ubuntu, Mac's, Android, Google Chrome, and the like. So I was not just saying this to kid her. It's true.

Nice little drama for my afternoon. I like to steam off once in awhile and let someone be the whipping boy (or girl) for all the world's problems, some of them they are causing themselves.

Linux is based off of Unix.

Mac OS's are also Unix based so they are cousins of sorts.

Android and google chrome has a Linux kernal or are Linux-like. So smartphones already have "Linux".

Ubuntu specifically has a smartphone, but good luck getting some provider to help you out with it or even put it online. Most cell providers assume everyone's a sheeple and either have MS or Apple products. However Linux infiltrated other ways mostly in our personal devices appealing to the younger crowd instead of the desktops and laptops so that's how it keeps afloat. As a matter of fact, in that sense, traditional computers aside, probably the Linux based OS on everything else exceeds Microsoft. I think MS is mostly only in the corporate world and also used by old-timer desktop people who won't change, such as your family doctor who wants to push pills. Usually these types send warnings out to their patients once in awhile that their computers were hacked again. LOL.

So, in answer to your question, just use anything other than MS and you'll be fine. It's close enough to Linux.

Re: Got another "Microsoft" call today
A similar thing happened to me a while back, except I didn't have a virus. My computer wasn't updating and they wanted to help me fix it. I laughed out loud and told her there was some mistake. My computers run Ubuntu and Crunchbang.

My wife runs win7, but I knew there was nothing wrong with it. I also knew the woman was trying to pull a social hack.

Linux users aren't the folks to try to trick.

I had a similar issue and played along. Finally as the were ready to remote access I said so once you get me to install your root kit shall I expect to hear from your Kenyan uncle with offers to send me an unknown fortune ? They laughed I laughed and we both agreed that pirates should not attempt to steal from fellow pirates.
