Sleeping in a pitch black room
Does this help you sleep? Could a person not wake up in a pitch black room if they wanted to?

Re: Sleeping in a pitch black room
I'm confused. Are you asking if we use night lights? lol. Lights should be off, fan should be on, and slumber should be had. Simple as that.

The darker the better. Keep your phone/tablet in a different room.

Pitch black dark, no trace of light getting in. Think sleeping in a basement with the lights off and door closed.

Re: Sleeping in a pitch black room
When I was younger, I painted my room dark gray and painted my windows black. Only thing I had that was run by electricity was a lamp and alarm clock (I covered that with a shirt when I slept). I can tell you that I had the deepest and best sleep in my entire life. As weird as this may sound, even though I was in deep sleep, if my roommate walked by my door I would wake up immediately, but was able to fall back to sleep with no issues. Best dreams too! Really vivid.

The only problem with sleeping in a darkroom for many people who have a fear of the dark is their brains be all like:

Yes, I can't sleep with any lights in the room. I cover up the light on my alarm clock.

It's also not healthy to sleep with any type of light in the room; it doesn't allow your body to go into full sleep mode.

OP it was pitch black at night. No light came into my room, I also had a draft blocker at the bottom of my door to make sure no light came in from the hallway or bathroom that was across my door.

You had your visual sensory deactivitied but not your hearing. A simple pair of ear plugs would have taken care of that. I can't sleep without my earplugs in... even if it's mostly quiet in the house. Most people who need hearing aids will remove them when they sleep.

Re: Sleeping in a pitch black room
Imagine if you were in a cave, you can't see, hear or feel any vibrations, it is simply still.

That is the condition we are used to sleeping in, that is the environmental setting.

Anything else and the body is not fully resting. TV's on. Your brain is not falling completely asleep.

Light hitting your eyes? Your melatonin and DMT levels have not risen and fallen completely and you will not have the natural/ultimate dream and healing experience.

Re: Sleeping in a pitch black room
The darker you can get the room, the better you'll sleep. I arrange it so that not even one tiny crack of light gets in, and I sleep wonderfully, and remember all my dreams.
As for waking up in the pitch black, people who have to get up for work early in winter always have had to do that! :)

I can sleep standing up in the daylight out in the middle of a field on a hot sunny day. Do enough stuff and you'll be tired enough to sleep.
