The NAIRAS model predicts atmospheric radiation exposure from galactic cosmic rays (GCR) and solar energetic particle (SEP) events. GCR particles propagation from local interstellar space to Earth is modeled using an extensionhe Badhwar and O'Neill model, where the solar modulation has been parameterized using high-latitude real-time neutron monitor measurements at Oulu,

It was considered significant enough that Concorde was fitted with its own radiation detection and warning system. Concorde flew at such high altitudes that there was very little of the Earth's atmosphere above it to protect from cosmic rays and high energy solar radiation. Flightcrews got a few minutes warning of increased radition levels and had the option to descend to the thicker air below 50,000 ft.
