A lot of work went into finding the kind of human being who could sustain such a disgusting and evil lie over the course of time. It takes a unique, rare kind of evil, the kind without conscience, probably not unlike that of a remorseless cold-blooded killer without feelings, like what Lanza was had he been the culprit/real.

By now it's entirely possible that some of these sociopaths are actually convinced they actually had a child who died that day. At this point, real tears may come easier.
