I disagree. I think Wilson was justified but this one doesn't look good for the cops involved. These officers were not attacked by the kid. Some cooler heads and common sense should have prevailed in this one.

FWIW, ABC News is ginning this one up. I guess their meager ratings bump with George Bimbo Eruption Stephanopoulus interviewing Wilson wasn't good enough.

Yep, I think Trident is still going. Over here only the criminals have guns, not even our normal coppers do! If a cop gets shot in U.K. it's a VERY big deal - it's usually the cop that's "un-armed" - not the other way round!!!!

When we had our "London riots", the bloke was shot by specialist "armed response" - not your average copper. Armed response has to called for when the cops are more than certain the criminal actually has a gun.

Maybe I've watched too many tv shows but cops always pull always away and hide behind their cars and talk on the speaker thing, have a standoff?? This seems pretty cold. This kid didn't know any better, he obviously hasn't had any good influence in his life.

What I saw on the news was that the 911 operator did not pass that information onto the police officers that responded.

Probably pulled in that way because they were told he was pointing the gun at people. The story I saw said that no one passed on the information about it being a BB gun to the cops responding. Also, the story said that the orange piece that was supposed to be on the end of the gun to indicate it wasn't real was removed.

No, there will be riots on this one for sure. I would be furious as a parent. We can't always be there to protect and deter our children. There would be hell to pay if this happened to my child. I am sort of surprised I am not hearing more about this one. I think a couple years ago a there was a big 13 year old who lost his life too this way, except that child was playing around a friend home. The neighbor that reported that kid should have just gone to the neighbors house to handle any unsafe situations instead of calling the cops. The cops should always be a last resort.

Children in the suburbs and in the country carry BB guns all the time and sometimes in town. There is rarely a problem as it is an expected right of passage that teenage children like to run around with BB guns a shoot at stuff.

Also a child be yelled at quickly does not give the child much time to process what is actually happening. A 12 year old is still developing there response skills. Its called wait and response timing. Teachers know this and are use to this and waiting to see how the child follows through.
Also do we even know if this child was a special education student? That would mean even more of a wait timing to response to instruction.

Police unfortunately are trained to think of every one as being the same in response and comparison to themselves. Unless a person is identified before hand as being " disabled or special" and whole host of things can go wrong quickly. In fact the disabled dare not be left by themselves due to the fact that the police in the community may be a problem. Anyone not like themselves, the police, are deviant and the most lethal response is often consider first over what is best for the citizen whom they are suppose to serve. They simply aren't trained to think about causes in situations, rather they are trained to respond to scenarios that will ensure they go home at night. Cops are not trained think of themselves anymore as Superman or GI Joe who put their life, safety , and well being on the line to protect society.

Sadly, they are trained in ganister thinking in that they are going home at the end of my shift, believing, my fellow officer has my back, I am better then the average citizen, and I will get away my mistakes/misdeeds because I am part of something that is powerful and I am special. Children also need more training in how to deal with police officers, because soften the children do not get to see good modeling through media. Over all though children across our nation need a healthy dose of learning good manners again. The Anti Bully campaign is OK. But, this needs a lot of extention though into social skills training and learning to be more powerful by being classy,; not trashy.

Ya there was. It was blurred out to protect identity. The kid walked down the sidewalk with a blurred figure waiving the gun in his/her face. Few minutes later, cops show up, all business thinking a lunatic was out on the street with a gun threatening people. Thats the story in a nutshell.

Yes, the 911 call was released. Not sure if it was posted anywhere - but it was played, in full, during the press conference before they showed the video.

In my city we have 12 year olds shooting real guns, so why wouldn't the cops expect it to be real?

One day a 13 y/o shot a 15 y/o that pulled a gun on him. Now the 14 y/o friends told me themselves that the 13 year old didn't intend to actually shoot the gun. But a wise old black woman who overheard us said, you don't aim a gun unless you intend to shoot.

The reality of the situation is that young black boys do have guns and they do shoot them. Meanwhile the white boys are busy climbing trees and playing in the woods. This is the difference. It is not race discrimination, it is reality.

Me again... And another thing.... We see the same black KIDS coming in shot multiple times! Can you imagine being a child and getting shot 2-3 times? This is the situation they place themselves in. Basically playing cops and robbers with real guns. That's all those gangs do you know. They play childhood games with grown up toys.
