That always amazes me how people think gold would be worth anything in a shtf scenario. Only stable societies have gold as a means of exchange or paper for that matter

In an Argentina-style collapse, it will be invaluable.

In a James Wesley Rawles-style complete socioeconomic collapse, it won't be worth shit until after things stabilizes. The only metal worth a damn in a full out collapse is lead.

In SHTF scenario , where the societal system collapses or temporarily ends, gold is useless of course. However, when society attempts to reorganize itself gold and precious metals will be the first money. That's really why people hoard gold...for the restart, not the collapse.
