Let me guess. Communists are planning to take over the world. Did you have Illuminati/NWO conspiracy back then or is it a modern creation?

Something to do with a planetary alignment that was supposed to cause all kinds of damage, the government and scientists knew but there were being quite about it to prevent panic.

occassionally.

ETs from Sirius B and that Dogon stuff.
Related to:
Illuminati....Robert Anton Wilson's version.
A lot of the same stuff as is coming to light now but much more sketchy and speculative. We KNEW there was something going on but what????
First read about NWO., I think in something written in the early 70's when noone had ever heard of it.But fom krazy Kristians.
Really weird to see it coming for decades and wham! now living at the high end of the exponential curve.

Probably alien abduction, or Area 51. The whole Bob Lazar thing was nearly 20 years ago.

"alien conspiracy theories?" yep One Xtian told me that the group he belonged to thought the god of the Old Testament was an ET who came down to earth to mine gold because it was the only thing He could sit on that he wouldn't sink through while zipping around the universe, and trained the local apes to be his miner/slaves.

I don't think actually that there are too many new conspiracy theories. It seems that they really are just the same old ones just rehashed a bit.

I remember discussing how a CIA director became VP and then President.

Lots of speculation about the apparent demise of the USSR, and what was behind it. Nobody really believed our economic might overwhelmed them and bankrupt them by ever continuing the "Arms Race"

Fatima was still discussed on the BBS of the day.

Re: What was the most popular conspiracy theory 20 years ago?
For me it was the UFO coverup. I discovered things like Area 51, Majestic-12 and Bob Lazar on files exchanged through the BBS system (bulletin-box-system, precursor to Internet using modems).

Shortly thereafter my brother coincidentally met two young people on a train who had ventured near the Area 51 facility in Nevada and seen strange lights in the sky. It still was possible in those days.

Re: What was the most popular conspiracy theory 20 years ago?
Wasn't much really before the internet. We were of a media controlled mindset. That's all the information we had access to - our tv, newspapers.

Fringe access generally meant having to buy a book. And usually you wouldn't even find out about a fringe book. Not like you could go online and google for one.

Re: What was the most popular conspiracy theory 20 years ago?
The first conspiracy theories I was made aware of were the UN and Agenda 21 environmental issues of peak oil, substainable environments, etc. all of which naturally led to the systems of control. The most unsettling research was reading about the aspects of an underground religion that uses child sex ritual abuse as a key to mind control of themselves and others. ... and then to perceive just how widespread and invasive that mind control is within this reality was initially almost too much for me. I've had to accept that some humans simply aren't human.

I think fluoridation was still on the hit parade back then. It's been up and down and in and out since the fifties though.
Just sayin'; a lot of good it's done to be beating on the issues over and over, again and again.
