Russia already has enough to do in the Ukraine and Syria. They might not want to add Greece to this.


Also, Greece is not Iceland. There are serious geo-strategical interests in Greece, especially when it comes to gas.

The US basically cut Russia from a direct access to the EU gas market via the Ukraine.

This wasn't random but intended.

Not only were the Russians cut off from delivering gas via the Ukraine into the EU, but the US also told Greece that they would become part of the "problem" if they allow the Russians to pass a pipeline through Greece, as this would be in direct conflict to US interests, trying to bring gas in from Azerbaijan which would make it unprofitable according to the US if Greece allowed for Russia to compete.
So much about free market and asking other nations to open up trade. It's good only as long as the US can stick it up your ass.

Instead of the US and Russia getting to the table and agreeing on delivering half the gas each which would be against a free market, but would make sense at least, they will end up spending more billions on the wars than the gas will be worth after all.
But going by their logic, world domination is more important than making sense economically.

So, Greece is not in an easy position here, surrounded by the whole muslim world and semi-stable neighbors.

Tsipras (he is supposed to represent the Greek people) wants no austerity plan, but he still wants the money.

No wonder there is no agreement. In such case, there can be no agreement.

From a different view i cannot see greece backing down over the sticking points, more austerity for their own people will cause a massive backlash.
