outcast by choice from society's lure
the ancient of oaks whittled down to a splinter
a splinter of light arching achingly pure
to show that supporters may also be anchor
holding in place that which yearns to be free
calming the swiftness of fire in its rancor
staying the voyage that burned through the sea
so in the midst of the maelstrom a silence
gathering strength in the respite of lore
so a withdrawal from action and violence
builds a resolve to continue the war
that energy shifts in the name of a balance
