Anyone else get depressed over the holidays?

Last year I had the flu that cause other problems, which lasted from the 16 of Dec. to second week in Jan, so that is when I had my Christmas. This year I have already had a virus for two weeks and now I am having problems with my knees was just my left knee now it is in my right knee. Funny now my husband is having the same problem with his left knee, he also had the virus.

We did not hurt our knees, well I know I did not, but they sure do hurt, hard to walk.

I refuse to let all this stuff get me down, sometimes it gets to me, but I get right back up as much as I can get up. This is not my worse problem anyway. Holidays do get some people down, but if you think more of others and less of yourself, you may get back to feeling happy or content.

It is about peace on earth good well to all men and women.

So, from me to you, I will wish you a Merry Happy Holiday on this Christmas, yes I say Christmas but for anyone Happy Holidays. May peace be in your heart, think of others, do some kind deed, smile smell the air, lift you head to heaven and say thank you for this day, and all the good and the bad times.

If you have anyone ask them to visit, or if there are place to help others who are homeless and people are feeding them, volunteer.

No it must just be you. The holidays are a holiday from stress, a exercise in freedom, free from capitalistic needs or wants and shrouded in decency and common need.

the holidays are the only time my entire family can be together for at while.
what you need to do is organize yourself better..don't wait until the last minute to get everything done.

Never enjoyed this period, it always seems to be people stressed/angry/frustrated and for the most part downright unpleasant.

I want to say bah humbug but I really would like to experience a nice/happy Chstimas but never have and don't think I ever will...

I have come to accept people are sh*t this time of year..

If you are in Australia then that it might not be the same, it is not like that here in Southern England either, but all my American relatives and work colleagues seem to be being made to feel more and more uncomfortable with using those words, which is really sad, it would be nigh on impossible to do that hear in my county given the Christmas street plays and all the other traditional bits that make up Christmas can be erased.

I do OP.....but aside from the usual stress...both my parents and many friends died this time of year so always sad for me. But I get through each day trying to do something nice for someone else and that helps.

Fuck Christmas. I haven't enjoyed Christmas since I was a small child. 25+ years of bullshit later, and fuck it. Not celebrating Christmas ever again.

This year, all of my plans have been flipped upside down. I am not stressing about it because no matter what, I will home with my family for Christmas. That is the ONLY thing that matters to me.

One of the things that makes me smile every time I see it, is Merry Christmas! on the city buses' digital message thing. :) Every bus has it.

I don't buy presents and don't expect any and will be staying away from shopping centres as much as possible till early January.

Yeah, I always wonder how I got this vile bunch of morons around, known as family. Karma is horrible. After just two days I wonder WTH I was thinking.

I will get probably 1 sms message from 1 person wishing me merry Christmas, which I wont reply to.
The person couldnt give a fuck about me they just do it out of guilt.
Other than that I will probably talk to myself most of the time.

I get depressed over the holidays. No work, too much free time, everything is closed (e.g. movies, theatres) and you're stuck inside pretending to enjoy yourself.

There is a solution to this problem: Align your Christmas observance more to the intent of the season.

In other words, no gifts. Give gifts all year otherwise, when people want and need them. No more annual blow-out. Peaceful, timely forever more.

No massively obscene feast. Instead you are meant to fast up until the "feast", which will be really just a normal meal (consisting of the holiday foods, of course) so you won't be bloated for days.

I guarantee that if you simply remove those two obscenities from your holidays, you will feel a lot better in every way. I've done it for years now. Since 2007 I've simply refused to play the game. Now I won't even go to a mall or department store during the holidays. I will go to farmers' markets or buy what is needed from small shops, but I abstain entirely from the rest of it. We don't even have a tree anymore. It's a time for peace, quiet, reading, talking, and just being.

I believe it's much more in line with what Jesus himself would have approved of, and I'm not even Christian (though I was raised in a hypocritically Christian family). I observe no religion whatsoever, but then again, I think for myself.

I took a cab to work, and the driver said Merry Christmas AND "God bless you" to me. :) And...he was not Caucasian.
