Re: Beijings airpocalypase- city on the verge of being uninhabitable
Good point. Water is the byproduct of hydrocarbon combustion.

Those cars that supposedly run on water are actually running on the aluminum cans they put in with the water. The aluminum gets oxidized (burned,) freeing up the hydrogen to run the engine.

The energy it took to refine that aluminum greatly exceeds the energy returned to run the engine.
 Quoting: Instant Karma

Yes - one could look at that as though the energy was "put into" the aluminium by the mining/refining process - although it wasn't physically stored in the aluminium. If the energy had not been put in, the aluminium would still be in the ore in the ground, and therefore useless in this circumstance.

Environmental Pollution is a declared State Secret in China!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66232747

Your point is valid, but isn't the Fukushima fallout a state secret where you live too?
 Quoting: Sikhed

No, your Opinion is based on bad/ wrong Information.

The Secrecy Law is not related to the Fukushima Accident,
"but" it could be in the Future.

At the moment this Law is valid only for military Secrets.

It might help a bit...

So that's why they built those ghost cities? To house Beijingians?

I went to work in China for a few months. The pollution is bad. Here is a picture of a typical day.chn

what wid all the red cars that only color there?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66262867

You're going to generalize about all Chinese cars based on one photo?
 Quoting: Instant Karma

Well most of them are commies and if they're not commies they are in most cases nationalists, the flag is red and the colour of communism is red... hence people want a red car.

Actually the most popular color was green. That is the color of the taxis and they were everywhere. A majority of the buses and taxis ran on compressed natural gas. If I could post a video I would show you the traffic. It is crazy there

Up too 99,000 people in 1 square mile..

I wonder how many manufacturing plants are spewing pollution in Bejing??

It is not such a bad thing that all the products manufactured these days are made somewhere other than here, or our environment would be much worse.

If offered the job, I could clean their air.
For a serious monthly sum, because they fucked it up themselves.

Don't need a lump-sum, because it will work fast.

Beijing’s air quality has long been a cause of concern, but the effects of its extreme levels of pollution on daily life can now be seen in physical changes to the architecture of the city. Buildings and spaces are being reconfigured and daily routines modified to allow normal life to go on beneath the toxic shroud.

Paper face masks have been common here for a long time, but now the heavy-duty kind with purifying canister filters – of the sort you might wear for a day of asbestos removal – are frequently seen on the streets. On bad days, bike lanes are completely deserted, as people stay at home or retreat to the conditioned environments of hermetically-sealed malls. It’s as if the 21-million-strong population of the Chinese capital is engaged in a mass city-wide rehearsal for life on an inhospitable planet. Only it’s not a rehearsal: the poisonous atmosphere is already here.

Maybe the reason for all the ghost cities, it would seem several large cities will be uninhabitable within 10 years.

begone!

Because the prevailing westerlies blow right toward the US. Bigger thing- we as a country have been there and done that. Acid rain in New England from the Steel Belt of the time. LA/SF back in the 70's.

Everyone thought they could save a dime or two by shipping the pollution overseas instead of fixing it.
Thing is we can and get our industry back.

The thing is ask is if various stockholders will be willing to give up some money?

That's the problem with the 401K and such. It gets everyone in on the bad end of business.

There is a piece in the Revelation about that

Don't worry. According to libertarians, the free market will correct this. Oh wait, the unregulated free market created this.

Correction: An insider controlled market created this. A truly Free Market would have discharged this malinvestment long ago.

and the industrial dark age had not killed the name calling death wishing swedes,netherlanders.... in that corner, what a shame:(.

I hope PEOPLE in Beijing do not feed more to any of these so called multicultural corps participated in destroying the enviornment first then hoping to earn the cleaning up money later. IKEA, for example, I heard them losing revenue quite a bit lately. :)
