Best day of the year to go for a nature stroll, have it all to yourself.

There were some days I had no choice.. But, it seemed fitting at times in a morbid sense. Sometimes the world is too much to be around.

yeah, it is starting to look like the best option. I agreed to let a non-committal ex boyfriend come see in in a few days and I can tell already it is sex he is looking for, not me, not a relationship, not long-term. Just a hook up. Makes me feel cheap and used and yeah, not at all the Christmas peace I was hoping for -- being a piece.

And it's so quiet too, almost startlingly so- you get a sense of something missing and then realize what it is. People seldom know the sound of real quiet while the world is out fussing around doing what they do, even in the middle of the night there's that ambient noise.

After we moved here, to a small country town in the west, from the Seattle area, a retired friend from there came for a visit.

He woke up in the middle of the night and panicked - no noise!

He told us he thought the world had come to an end.

Now I think it is time to move again. :-(

Even at our ranch, you can hear the traffic on the highway at night when the sound carries.

Here's to the silence

I've managed to spend Christmas Day by myself for the last 25 years, and wouldn't have it any other way. I have a volunteer shift that morning, but afterwards I plan to go for a long, leisurely stroll through silent streets, then come home and work on craft projects while listening to (non-Christmas) music.

My mom's the same way. We'll get together sometime between Christmas and New Year's, but we're perfectly content to ignore the holiday madness.

I was digging the av picture too, never seen an aerial view. I thought of moving there, or at least exploring it, I'll have to be content to plan a visit. It's on the Empire Builder line, a huge point in any town's favor.
