I like how you think.

I work hard no matter what I'm doing. That energy needs to be channeled into something positive for myself.

That's why I want to get off grid so bad. I'm going to give suzie home maker a new name.

My last line manager was the hardest working slacker I ever met & by that I mean he would literally expend more energy pretending to look busy than actually being busy.
How do these people get away with it?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 65169971

I know hey?
So are all these people idiots? Or are they just THAT good at deception? lol.

Perception is reality to most in the current construct we live in. Reality does not matter as much as perception. I am not saying I agree with this, but people are trained to believe what they perceive to be true rather than the truth.

Wow, cant believe this thread is here. In the last three weeks my life has been hell at work.

To be brief, I am unionized and this piece of shit who was supposed to be a coworking buddy is in the midst of a separation. He has since done zero work, on facebook all day, playing on the internet and telling me his life story. He has taken many health and safety risks, amongst other coercive and argumentative behaviour towards me. I kept telling my manager but he's retiring in a short period of time. I finally got pissed off and told him off. The next day to make me feel worse, he tells me he thinks he has cancer.

Anyways, good to hear stories out there, what did I do? Wrote a ten page plus report and sent it to HR and got everyone in shit. Did I want to do this? Not really, but it got results and no one fucks with me now. Bullying is a real problem in a union workplace.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 50726757

Thank you for your post! hf

And I can definitely relate, I was once a union member... You can't fire these people lol. You can go to work drunk and stoned, fuck around and they'll still keep you.

We had a convicted sex offender in our office. He committed sexual assault and was found guilty while he worked there. Guess who got to keep his job?

Management doesn't want to deal with these union assholes because it's too much of a battle for them.

It was a cushy, well paying job but I had to leave.
 Quoting: Stoned Goddess

Hey thanks for your response! I could have had this guy fired for bullying but I am not a malicious person by nature. Sorry to hear about yours. This just proves that unions are no longer needed in the workplace.

The ONLY thing they do is get you a higher wage, other than that, total bullshit. We have had people file grievances for wanting to leave work early and their managers said no. Can you freaking believe the nerve? lol

I have since found out that there is no law in Ontario that requires you to join a union to work, or pay union dues. Yet somehow, your are forced to. If they came to me tomorrow and said you can keep your same wage and do not have to pay union dues anymore, I'd say where do I sign.

But it's at the point where I am ready to quit my job. I'm not going to pick up someone else's slack anymore.

I can't work with someone who frequently calls in sick, is never at their desk. And when she is here, she's on fucking facebook or youtube.

But when she does something that could be considered actual work, get ready for her to make a huge production out of it and announce it to the whole office. rolleyes2

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous.

The worst part is what they actually do with those union dues.

They take lavish trips to ottawa, give employees 50 dollars cash for food per day, which if they don't spend, they can pocket... they get to stay at the most high class expensive hotels.

My co-worker was part of the union board, and she spent more time on useless trips and courses than she did at her desk, actually working. She would always boast to me about how great it was. She would post pictures on facebook of her drinking red wine at some fancy restaurant with some caption "I love working for the gov't" ...

I am a carpenter. It's sort of hard to fake it in my industry. I hired a guy with twenty plus years for a framing job, he figured out how to drag ass but always look busy. I hired a former office rat and pizza boy who is now a successful plumber. Moreover, he was becoming a damn good carpenter because he wanted to work! He enjoyed it!

So, I don't know. I think everyone drag asses once and awhile. I do sometimes. You just sort of don't give a fuck because your client either wants the impossible or is constantly on site making waves. Those are the times that I sort of start to grind and not hustle, because you'll never make that spoiled ex-cheerleader happy---no matter what you do!

On the other hand, I'd fucked up framing a very ornate door and the old guy I was doing it for, a Jewish ophthalmologist, just laughed and said, "Oh no worries. If they notice that screw 'em."

You are correct... we certainly all have been guilty of laziness or not working when we are supposed to.

I've actually been looking at trades lately... considering locksmith.

I'd like a job where, when I'm done my work for the day, I don't get another persons work dumped on me because they were slacking all day and knew I'd just do their work... and then being lectured about team work when I bring my concerns to the supervisor.

I really feel like this is such a cliche complaint, especially for GLP. No one likes their job. I know there are soooooo many others like me who are dealing with the same bullshit.

I guess the difference with me is that I won't tolerate it. I'm not going to be one of those people who has shitty days and then goes home and bitches about it.

That's why I quit my gov't job of 6 years and moved here. I joined the private sector because generally people are held accountable for their shitty work and get fired when necessary.

I want to be able to go home and feel good about what I did that day. I don't want to feel conflicted as I have been.

If I don't get another job soon, there's going to be a huge blowout and this will end badly. I'm already planning to confront my co-worker on her gossip tomorrow in front of the entire office. I can't tell what's rational and what isn't. I've brought it to the sups attention before and she cuts me off, changes the subject or just doesn't bother to listen.

Life's too short for this bullshit. Fuck if I'll be another sheep getting fucked at my job.

I have a part time job too that I could survive off of if I needed. Work up here is easy to find.

Good for you, that's a spitting image of my situation.

Supervisors (one in particular) turn the other cheek and totally ignore it.

This *stellar* employee blatantly declined to take one of her phone calls last Friday because she was busy socializing. She did it right in front of the Sup and branch manager and they did nothing. I said, "so you want me to tell them you just don't feel like taking your calls then?" out loud and they all just pretended I wasn't even there.

I also get emails from people who have emailed her numerous times already with no response.

She has asked me to cover for her in the past when she called in, which I immediately told my supervisor what she was up to and pointed out she was actively posting on facebook with her daughter when she was supposedly "sick".

My former manager back then said "we have to get rid of her" but not only did they not get rid of her, they gave her a promotion AND a raise.

I am thinking of writing a letter to head office. I know our president would be extremely choked if he even knew the half. We have strict policies against bullying, and specifically talking about other employees behind their back. The fact my own supervisor does this... I don't mind stiring shit. Won't matter, I really won't be there much longer. And I don't care if they hate me until I leave.

Sounds fishy. Make a formal HR complaint to the attorney in MER. Be ready for fallout. Maybe she is fucking someone at work in a position above hers.
Whore.

SG, it sounds like you are in a poison work environment. There comes a time when you just have to say fuck it and leave before you pull your hair out or punch someone out.

I have been down your path in my past and you will just frustrate yourself trying to deal with these fucktards.

I can share my story with you but not on here.

For now you need to let it go and just chill for a few days and enjoy Christmas. You deserve better.

I work for myself, my sole aim is to work less and earn more. Fuck this system. Having said that, if I was an employee and my coworker was being a lazy cunt Id be pissed off.

You are right Bear and I am trying.

I just don't want to give my notice until I have something else lined up 100%. My part time job pays good but the hours aren't guaranteed.

I would love to hear your story and talk to you more!

Aren't you up in these parts by now anyways??

Good for you... you found a way to escape the matrix and that's fantastic!!!!

I would LOVE to work for myself!! I have no idea what I would do though. I had an ebay business going for a while but it didn't generate enough to make a living.

How do you say you're destined for greater things without sounding arrogant? I feel like I'm living a lie.

Re: People who give the illusion that they work hard, but they really do fuck all
After 37 years of FT work, yeah I could share some horror stories, it's EVERYWHERE.

But for *hits & giggles, I had this one (whore) boss once, and my private nickname for her was Ms. Wiggles & Giggles, because it was REALLY about ALL (besides giving blow jobs) she was qualified to do.

She was a total idiot, and I'm putting that mildly. She finally did get fired (I had walked first, I just couldn't take it anymore). This gal would spell "gesture" as "jester". I KID you not, and yeah, she knew how to string her "so much work" (about 1 hour's worth in my world) into 8 hours in her world) and guess who picked up the rest?

She couldn't even add on a calculator ok? Let alone try to save a document to a specific file on the hard drive. Her spelling was about 3rd grade level I kid you not.

It was MURDER for me to have to work under her, it really was. I learned to work around issues quickly and with a smile as I knew she was blowing the big boss, so no matter what I did, wouldn't matter.

I sorta did have to eat a lot of crow on that one, for quite a while...but I did get my final departing honest JUSTICE; both are NO LONGER employed at that company. I quit and got unemployment, what does that tell you? More than hanky panky was going on...as in fraud, won't go into details, but I figured it out.

Sometimes the good person DOES win in the end. Esp. when you have hard evidence of certain actions disguised as "innocent mistakes" --- not.

I could share so many of these stories, but as previous poster said, not worth it, just get out and "uck em".

In the meantime, don't give her too much rent space in your head ok? Those types just aren't worth it...document, document, document...don't take her head on, get the goods on her first, esp. if you don't care if you stay or not, have some fun setting her up on your way out. Smile while you're at it.

These types ALWAYS ALWAYS in the end trip themselves up (well, from my former experiences). It's just too many good people get screwed before the karma bus stops at their door.

Small consolation huh? For me it was hard because I really enjoyed the job/people/employees and challenges and responsibility; but I had to protect my own integrity, health and sanity and sounds like you have to as well :)

Good Luck.

Your last paragraph sums it up for me!!! I like the job itself and even the BS and challenges that comes with it.

And you are right, it's about protecting my own health and sanity.

I hope I have the same luck that you do... I'm actually hoping it wasn't "luck" and it was just karma.

If karma prevails then I know these people will all get what they deserve in the end.

Thank you for sharing your story with me!! And thanks for all your advice.

Damn, GLP'ers are frigging awesome. I love you all!
