Very Public spirited of you Bono

Bono takes 40 per cent stake in 'Forbes' magazine

By David Usborne in New York
Published: 08 August 2006

Bono, the Irish rock star and anti-poverty campaigner, has taken on yet another role, this time as a co-owner and co-publisher of Forbes, the American business magazine which for almost 90 years has unabashedly celebrated wealth and capitalist consumption.

Members of the Forbes clan, including the former presidential candidate Steve Forbes, confirmed that they had sold a significant minority stake in their company, Forbes Media, to an American-based equity fund called Elevation, in which Bono, the front man of U2, is one of six partners.

The singer was not directly involved in the negotiations, nor does anyone expect him to take any direct role in the management or editorial running of the media company. While no details of the deal were available, it was reported that Elevation paid as much as $300m (£157m) for a 40 per cent stake in Forbes Media.

Roger McNamee, an Elevation partner who signed the deal last Friday, said Bono was drawn to Forbes because it "has a point of view". He said the singer "drove this part of the discussion and likes the fact that there has been a consistent philosophy throughout its history".

Re: Bono takes 40 per cent stake in 'Forbes' magazine
I need a mag like Forbes to campaign for the reform the US Dollar. It's collateralized by investors which charge interest. It needs to be collateralized with the social security tax instead so that the interest flows back into the hands of the workers instead, multiple times over via fractional reserve lending. It's part of ending poverty as we know it, which is what Bono is dedicated to. He likes Forbes over the other options out there, because in his eyes they have credibility in the consistent message of their editorials over the years that prove their dedication to the idea of wealth creation for everyone, spreading wealth, etc. Right there in sync with Bono's quest to end poverty.

before you go criticizing a rich man who works tirelessly to help the poorest amoungst us, ask yourself this, would youinvest your money wisely if you were rich? would it make you a bad person? what if you used your power money and influence to benefit third world nations? what if you influenced rich investors to give $$ to end world poverty? people i know who work for this man say he spends a lot of his time working for the benefit of peoples he has never met. i do some volunteer work for the one campaign and it is an awesome organization. we have raised hundreds of millions for poverty and all its ills. nopt like the pat robertsons of the world who take money from old grannies social security checks and buy planes for his diamond mines in africa. mines that employ slaves and murder opponents.

I thought only Jews control the American media? Right, Islamic Guy?
