The thing is it doesn't have to be a lot too make a difference to someone.
And you still get to feel good.

Re: Act of Kindness
I always help out every year for families in need so far I have helped close to 30 families this year. However a few have a way of touching our heart like yesterdays surprise. I can't believe what happened. And I so want to kick myself for not catching on at some point, but that was just so heart wrenching.

And so many folks still in need of food, and just at least 1 toy for their kid for under that tree.

But here is the story about a little girl that I didn't realize was a little girl:

Re: Act of Kindness
I was reading this thread while waking up to my first cup of coffee, on my couch this morning. My 10 month old daughter sleeping on my chest...
And thought, "What can I do today? Hmmmm.... I suppose when I go to Starbucks, I'll buy the coffee of the person behind me, or in front of me (and hope she's pretty and not offended that a married man is buying her a coffee)."

Well, it's pouring outside. So I hit the drive thru.
As I got to the window to pay for my cup of coffee, I was disappointed that nobody drove up behind me. Bummer. I won't be able to buy anybody's coffee.....
And then a dude in an SUV rolled up as I got my card out to hand to the girl at the window.
"Actually," she said, "the lady in front of you bought your coffee today, and said Merry Christmas!"
I started to laugh, and said "I was gonna do the exact same thing for the person behind me!"

So, I did. It was a funny turn of events. And it was obvious to me that the universe and positive energy is truly a magical thing.

Re: Act of Kindness
I try to do this not just for strangers but for those in my life as often as possible. Patience and understanding are one of the most simple gifts, and they are.

One example...earlier this school year a student in my class was goofing a bit and over-did it and an entire bin of stuff went all over the floor making a huge mess. I expected him to clean it up, but didn't shame him and simply said "hey let's get this picked up, accidents happen when you goof." I also smiled at him.

He looked really sorry, and cleaned up the mess. But I knew he was truly grateful for me not freaking out and yelling when he came to me and quietly said "Thank you for not getting really mad at me," and he smiled.

I wonder how often that kid gets yelled at. He's a bit of a handful, but I can tell he is a good person. Now he always is the first to offer to help and I can tell he trusts/respects me. It goes both ways. :)

A lot of information coming out right now about beggers driving off in nice cars or hitting the liquor store but none of that matters. The act of giving is a blessing to the giver. (period)

Re: Act of Kindness
Good thread!!!

I decided not long ago to do the same thing for as many people as I could.
I Started with house keepers at a caravan park I stayed in a week ago. I know how hard a job it is- so I thought I would strip the beds for them, cleaned up the room, put some fruit and a bottle of fizzy drink in the fridge, left the $10 key deposit so I could leave the air conditioner on for them(its unbearably hot) and Chrissy card with a bottle of perfume.😊

Got sick of being down and out about how many assholes are in the world- decided to just try little things to bring some smiles. And it made me smile too.
Hopefully if we all do that little bit extra, we may see some changes happen. X

Why does it feel good ? Because you're feeding your own ego.If you do these things all the time,it feels normal. It feels good to you because you don't do it often..
 Quoting: v 64740808

- There is a deeper truth as to why it 'feels good' and that lies in the interconnectedness of all sentient 'beings'

- If a person's motivation for helping others was to boost his/her reputation or enhance his/her image in the eyes of others - then you could appropriately say that it was done for the purpose of feeding one's ego and not done out of genuine selflessness and generosity

- Helping others still 'feels good' even when it becomes a regular occurrence in your life - it doesn't lose its effect. So when you suggest it feels 'normal', did you mean to imply it ceases to feel good?

hmm
