Well, let me tell you a little story. I was at work and a patient approached the nurses station screaming loudly that she could not breathe. Screaming it. I was like "Surely you are breathing if you are able to scream."

Well technically, yes, she was "breathing". What was happening is that oxygen was not entering her blood anyway. So in spite of the fact that she was taking in air, she was not processing the oxygen. When hooked up to a pulse oxygen machine, it was seen her oxygen level was very low.

So a person can be screaming and suffocating.

Most states require a certification process to become any kind of security guard. Once certified, it gives the guards certain rights and authorities to act in accordance with state law, including apprehension and detainment of citizens under certain conditions,(just like bail bondsmen). If you don't like that, you should be petitioning your state government for redress of the law, not blaming the people who are acting within it's scope. But then, its so much easier to sit at your computer and pass sweeping judgements based on grainy video than it is to actually exercise your rights and responsibilities as a citizen. That takes too much effort.

I agree with the above statement. I accidentally sprayed myself with pepper spray and came unfreaking hinged! I could not catch my breathe and went into a panic running around,splashing water in my face, went outside thinking that would help. Can't imagine what it would be like to have people sitting on top of me keeping me from trying to catch my breath!

What crime was committed? Let's ask ourselves that question first before labeling him a criminal. Everyone is assuming at this point. The crime determines the punishment.

Yes, until he has been pronounced guilty by a jury of his peers, he is to be presumed innocent. He has a right to a trial by jury. His sentence is not to be carried out by arresting officers who think they're Judge Dread. I will concede that in this case, it did not look like the security guards had any intent to harm him.

I would like to add that as someone who used to suffer from asthma attacks in my youth, I can attest that a person is able to talk in those moments before the windpipe closes up. I have said "I can't breathe" in a panic more than a few times in my youth just prior to not being able to breathe at all. It really is best to heed someone when they say they can't breathe.

same here, talking does not necessarily imply that breathing will be taking place in the next 30 seconds. you can feel your airway shutting, this is when you start getting shortness of breathe and start saying I Cant Breathe.....
