I see it, looks to me like its cuz of its brightness but I could be wrong, it just rose here so I'll wait till its overhead. The red star next to the moon is Aldebaran, the bull's eye. Lovejoy is in Lepus the rabbit under Rigel at Orion's heel just below that.

I'd love to know more on the relation between sirius and that object if you care to share...
