Am hoping mostly for stories of individual people you came across who just can't think any more.

It's a combination of many factors, especially:

formula instead of breast milk
excitotoxins kill brain cells within one meal with MSG, aspartame etc.
mobile phones kill brain cells

And a culture in the USA where learning is not recognized as something worthwhile.

My American mother-in-law recently said to me - "You read too much"!!!!

bloody knows for sure be president in the U.S.
and generalissimus of the world's most formidable
fighting force, waging imperialistic wars or killing
suspects without any sort of legal procedure - and
people will cheer and buy you drinks.

But first let him do absolutely nothing - except
not being his predecessor - and Europeans will want
to give him the Nobel Peace Prize.

The best story I read was about a woman that couldn't afford a facelift or was told by the doctor there wasn't a need .So she injected cooking oil into her face .. Before she did this to herself she was storming ....... Her name was Hang Mioku ..Her face became so grotesquely large that she was called "standing fan" by children in her neighbourhood - due to her large face and small body. she now says that she would simply like her original face back.
