Anyone Have Experience With Major Heart Palpitations, Atrial Fibrilation, Arrithymia??????
I've had heart palpitations on and off my whole life. One time about 10 years ago it was so bad that I went to the ER. They said I had A-fib, gave me magnesium and beta-blocker and sent me home after 3 days. I stopped the meds shortly after and it eventually went away, but once in a while acted up, but gonee for the most part.

About 1 month ago it started again, on a constant basis, every time I stood up. I went to the doc, she put me on a beta-blocker and my heart rate crashed, I almost passed out and felt major pressure on my chest. I knew what was happening and drank a huge cup of coffee which brought my heart rate back up again and I was ok, but the palpitations continued and it's really bad. I stopped the beta-blocker right away after that episode. I don't have them while laying down, but they start immediately in the morning when I stand up and continue all day. I"ve eliminated caffiene, salt and major triggers that I can think of.

I have an appointment back to see the doc again on monday, but I know she or he will put me right back on more meds that have bad side effects and don't always fix the problem, and actually kill some people.

I've been doing alot of research on natural things, like magnesium.....and I guess I"m on the fence not knowing to go the traditional medicine route or the natural route and wondering if anyone else has ever delt with this and what worked for you?

An appointment with a cardiologist isn't an option as I have no medical insurance and I"m low income, but don't qualify for medicaid. I have to pay cash when I see the doctor, so I can't go that often.

Thank you for any advice you can give.

I feel for you op, I'm in the same situation, but at least I can take the beta blocker and it's only $4.00 a month.

You might try a teaching hospital...

My dad has similar issues. I'd suggest reconsidering the salt intake. My dad nearly died from sodium deficiency because he reduced sodium so drastically.

I've heard cayenne pepper can be incredibly helpful almost instantly if you take it as tea or otherwise in the mouth (not capsules; there's something about it being in your mouth that does the trick). The tea is surprisingly mellow. Just put some cayenne in hot water. As a warning, it will stimulate your digestion and likely prompt elimination within several minutes.

Consider coenzyme q10. Our hearts need it especially as we age. It's not cheap, but you don't need much. Walmart version is fine.

All this aside from the healing Jesus provides.

Some people are claiming that the higher more powerful
wifi, smart meters, smart phones, cell towers etc.. are causing heart problems (along with a lot of other health issues) for lots of people. The heart runs on electric impulses, probably doesn't take much RF pollution to throw those impulses off. Is being able to send picts on your phoone worth a heart attack?

Re: Anyone Have Experience With Major Heart Palpitations, Atrial Fibrilation, Arrithymia??????
Oh yeah. Mine is supraventricular tachycardia (heartrate too fast), which began about 12 years ago. In the first 6 months of those 12 years, they had to stop my heart twice, and restart it.

Scariest thing in my world (so far) were the seconds that ticked by, while I was awake, aware, my heart not beating. gaah While my sons stood there all bug-eyed, and the medics frantically counting down hoping my heart would restart.

What they did not tell me beforehand, either time, was that sometimes when they have to give a shot to stop the heart and restart it, the heart does not restart. In some ways I'm glad they didn't tell me that, yet mostly glad they finally did, cuz we DO need to understand what we can, of what is going on at the time... And it explains the panicked look on the faces of the medics the longer they counted, and the relieved looks when my heart began to beat again.

Here's what they told me after the second time... on what to do when/if our heartbeat is going too fast for what seems too long. (Not sure what to do if it's the opposite, heartbeat too slow).

Take deep, slow breaths. Then take another deep slow breath in, and hold it. If that does not slow the heartbeat down, then (sorry to describe it this way online, but it's what they said), hold your breath and push like you're having a bowel movement (only don't have one, lol). Follow that with a few more deep, slow breaths. This kind of breathing has done the trick for me, over the years. Amazing that it does work.

Don't let a racing heart go on too long. I'm calling 911 if it gets out of control for near an hour with the breathing techniques not working.

Back then too, they started me on Toprol-XL, told me to cut out the coffee and smoking, and no alcohol.

I also got a service dog (a dachshund), went thru the training with him for nearly a year, he alerts before my heart goes out of whack. Somehow he knows before I do, it's the craziest thing. He just turned 9 last month, and has alerted several times, bless him. When he alerts, I take an extra Toprol. My heart has gotten up to 220 beats per minute, but thankfully does not stay at that rate for very long.

I hope you keep the appt with your doc and they can work with you on your solution. Suggest writing down all your questions and concerns to make best use of your appt time with em.

My experience is that most docs don't suggest natural routes, which just burns my britches. Cuz it's like they are all about treating the symptoms rather than finding the cure. Like my thyroid, am giving my doc grief over it right now cuz am tired of taking meds for it when I'm thinking a natural route would be better, while he's like, 'you want to do what???'. chuckle

And yet with my heart, I'd much rather go with the doc on what actually works to keep it beating steadily, than to mess around trying to find a natural route and have my heart freak out in the meantime.

Yes I do have high blood pressure. The Toprol didn't act fast enough for me, so I'm on Atenolol 25 mg.

I also have a really bad problem keeping up my potassium. I take a large dose of it along with Mag. and calcium.

Some things that are really good for the heart are Hawthorne Berry extract, mega L-Carnitine (I prefer the liquid), and coenzyme q10.

I hope that helps.

The single best way to heal the heart is Hawthorne Berry. The next best thing is (organic) cayenne pepper...
I have an irregular heartbeat also, they've made a huge difference. I take no pharma drugs, healthier than when I did....
also, in case you didn't know, cayenne pepper will actually stop a heart attack in progress...a teaspoon full in a little water...also it will stop a stroke in progress, with no lasting damage later...there is much research done with these, google for more info.
I carry cayenne with me in my purse, just in case...

also I would suggest getting one of those 48 hour monitors they hook up to you, or stress test, or echo...to make sure you don't have dangerous blockages...
most docs laugh at the notion of natural remedies, but not in other countries...America's health care system is seriously flawed.
Good luck, God bless.

Myers cocktail. Stopped mine. Its an IV drip. takes about 45 minutes
75.00$ though. Cheaper than most dr's treatment.

We have job loss so the $$$ is very important. But the beta blockers
make people crazy.

The IV made a difference that day for a week or better. Still good after 3 weeks but can feel it come back a little.

Find a good chiropractor or depending on your state a natural path doctor or a doctor that treats fibromyalgia.

Good luck. Tried it all. Pill magnesium wont work,,,,your to low.

Op, take a look at Vitamin K to go with the magnesium. It might be of value to you. Make sure there aren't any contra-indications for you first. It's a little pricey, but maybe Walmart has a cheap version.

Re: Anyone Have Experience With Major Heart Palpitations, Atrial Fibrilation, Arrithymia??????
I don't have quite the same symptoms as you, but occasionally (rarely even) usually after leaning over to get something off the floor (anything with a good bending at the waist) my heart begins to beat irregularly. I believe it's both valves suddenly synchronizing...which makes my heart thump very heavily, and if I'm exercising or short of breath (I play soccer as much as possible so I'm in pretty good shape) I begin to pass out. I've never fully lost consciousness before...but it's scary. It took me a number of years before I realized that if I simply lay down completely flat, like arms to my sides, concentrate on slowing my breathing (kinda what mystic Wolfsong said to do) and compress my chest and stomach cavity while nearly holding my breath, it slows down my heart and I can feel it suddenly correct itself. Usually takes 15-30 seconds of being on the ground to correct. Sometimes if I don't need to move around too much I can correct it while standing up.
This all being said...I just turned 29. I live off the grid, eat super healthy, a very nice life...and it still happens. I don't take anything for it, never seen a Dr for it...I just deal with it when it arises. I honestly believe in the integral healing power of the mind and the body...and the heart. Good luck to you all!

If you have low iron levels or anemia you will experience palpitations. Same with low potassium. Hopefully the Dr. checked those for you.
Sometimes some iron supplements and coconut water helps pretty good.

All of you idiots have it wrong. Lie on your back and get a cat that purrs a lot and place him on your chest.Relax and you will soon feel the vibrations or frequencies of the cats purring flow through your body. My palpitations cease after just a few minutes.
It is also known that if you have a broken bone, it will heal faster with cats around you. Give it a try. You'll be surprised.

That works real well... if you squat down or lower our head it works even faster. Take a deep breath and hold it while pushing like you're trying to breathe out.

I used to get palpitations a lot. They mostly went away when I quit drinking 'Pepsee' every day.

Look into the Magnesium for sure, KEEP WELL HYDRATED and don't skimp on other basics like vitamins C and D.

In the early stages there are several techniques that will stop AF but as the incidents increase eventually you will have to get shocked back into rhythm.
Unless you have got to this stage you would not understand. If AF is left too long you can suffer blot clots in the heart leading too stroke.

i've been having crazy heart for forty years, probably due to youthful speed freak experience. always stay calm, breathe deep, it will pass. don't try to explain it to anybody while it's happening, it will just panic you both. pop a couple aspirin when it starts, thins the blood and circulates better.
read Dr. Carolyn Dean "Miracle of Magnesium", she's online also. any kind of magnesium supplement will be helpful, 500 mg. at first, then cut that in half in a day or two. take no calcium supplements, or if you must, take the calcium on the other end of your day. don't mix them. also staying away from salt is a good idea. you get plenty in an ordinary diet, but stay away from salty snacks. i also take postassium supplements with the magnesium. magnesium, potassium and sodium constitute your electrolyes. you already got sodium, probably too much.

I believe your on the right track with Magnesium. It has worked for me. There are different types of Magnesium, find one that works for you. Stick with Magnesium, your on the right track. There are co-factors (additional nutrients that help Magnesium), too.

You can google "Mag Water" for a recipe.
[link to www.afibbers.org]
Easy to make, cheap , and delivers high absorbion of Magnesium. It involes a $2 bottle of Milk of Magnesia (MOM),Buy from Dollar General (DG brand),reason is ingredients are just magnesium and water. Otherwise you get chlorine from name brands and such. 1 ltr. of Seltzer water and a gallon of spring water. Watch youtube video or read recipe, basically it it measuring adult dosage (3 tbsp.) in to measuring cap. Combining with Seltzer, it becomes Magnesium Bicarbonate. Some people pour a third of the liter mix into gallon jug and fill rest with spring water. Others, as myself go ahead and put the whole liter in jug and add the spring water. Drink a couple of liters a day, spread throughout day .

Join, Magnesium Advocacy Group on facebook, you can search their files for more info.
[link to www.facebook.com (secure)]

Check out Dr. Carolyn Dean, wrote book "The Magnesium Miracle".

P.S. I believe you may have saved your own life or extended it. I also take k2, B vitamins, and some potassium. You may also look into "Adrenilan Fatigue" (info also available in facebook group I mentioned. Good luck!

Re: Anyone Have Experience With Major Heart Palpitations, Atrial Fibrilation, Arrithymia??????
A beta blocker functions by blocking adrenalin that is secreted from the adrenal glands located on the top of your kidneys.

The body generates adrenalin in response to streesors. That stress can be food allergies as well as chemical additions to the body.
Wheat is a very insidious allergy that I believe many people have.
Bread, cookies and damn near everything else has wheat in it now.

Artificial sweetners such as Splenda has palpatations and tachycardia as a side effect for some users.
And nutrasweet is a known toxin.
Caffeine and nicotine both cause an increase in heart rate.
Chocolate has caffeine and eggplants and other veggies have nicotine.
A high sugar/ carb food can cause an immdiate spike in heart rate as the body pumps insulin to counter the sugar.

Some people are more sensitive to these triggers than others.

You need to get a food diary.
You need to take 450 mg of magnesium, not in oxide form, per day. I would say even more. The 450 mg is the RDA minimum.
You need about 5000 mg of potassium a day.

Calcium is not advised. We get plenty in an average diet.

The other things to take.
Cayenne pepper.
Hawthorne berry
Good fats- feat a few handfuls of raw nuts such as cashews, almonds and walnuts every day.
Increaseing omega3 fats lowers heart rate from 5-10 bpm.

Garlic is a blood thinner that will lower bp.
Its very good for you but- if you do not hydrate enough your bp drops ,your hr will increase.
Take at a min 2000 mg vitamin c.
Take D3
CoQ10
Taurine

In the end the heart is a pump. It receives electro chem signals to operate.
It needs to be lubricated with good fats and get the proper nutrients to function- mag, potassium.

Drink a lot of water.

Avoid stress from food. High carb, wheat, nicotine, caffeine. Again keep a food diary . I am willing to bet that morning toast and Wheaties does you no good.
The fact that your hr crashed after a beta blocker indicates that your adrenaline release is inconsistent. That makes me thing its food related,as in a food allergy.
benadryl may help until you figure this out.

Do not eat large meals, since that can also agitate the vagus nerve.

Good luck

Forgot to add, for some people eggs are also allergenic.

Re: Anyone Have Experience With Major Heart Palpitations, Atrial Fibrilation, Arrithymia??????
usually fear triggers mine. i didn't realize that it was fear until recently. lately i'm able to say a prayer it goes away within a 10 minutes, but when i prayed years ago and even until recently, it never worked well. it takes a lot of trust and following the love to let it work.

if i'm able to, i would ask my dh and dd to channel reiki with me (i practice reiki tummo) and with all three of us channeling to me it would stop within 15 seconds, but i'd be drained for hours afterwards. if i did it myself, it would take an hour or two to stop. sometimes i just go to sleep and i'm ok because i'm not thinking of it anymore.

i did try magnesium pills, but it really did nothing for fear - once i figured out it was fear.

as for salt, i use real salt or Himalayan because they have trace minerals and it tastes much better than regular salt.

i've been drinking matcha tea lately and i feel that it helps calm my nerves a bit. the caffeine shot is steady through the body.

cut back on coffee. it gives a high shot of caffeine then a quick down.

as for water, i got a great tip. filter your water, boil it and let it cool down before you drink it. i think it has something to do with all those molecules/atoms just bumping into each other that makes boiled water much healthier for people. i'm no scientist though.

of course if there's a medical reason, then follow your doctor's order.

we will all have health conditions based on our genetic traits that might one day be the making of us. most importantly is to not let the fear get the best of you. when you can, get yourself distracted while you struggle with your problems. to keep yourself happy despite the struggle. it's what has worked for me for the last 20 years.

feel better.

Re: Anyone Have Experience With Major Heart Palpitations, Atrial Fibrilation, Arrithymia??????
How very odd that someone is having the same issues as me, I really never thought so many people had these issues.
I have supra ventricular tachycardia as well, all my life, but havent had any issues until around Thanksgiving. My heart was palpitating so badly it caused major panic attack and I ended up in the ER.
Had some extensive tests, put on a holtor monitor for 48 hours and had an echo of my heart. Tests all came back ok, no abnormal arrhythmia going on.
Im pretty darn sure mine is menopause related, but I did start taking more calcium/mag and got some CoQ10.
It stopped shortly after that, once in awhile I still feel it, but it's not as bad as it was. The anxiety has lessened as well, thankfully!
The worst part is when I would go to sleep, it would start in and my whole chest would move, I mean you could literally see it and it would cause a huge wave of anxiety to come on, which would then increase the palps..just a horrible, vicious cycle.
About ten years ago I had an episode that caused my heart to race to 250 bpm and I called 911 and the paramedic gave me a drug called Adenosine, that actually stops your heart, worst feeling I've ever had in my life. It didnt work the first time, so he told me he'd have to give me another one and I said, No, please I dont want it again..he says, well if I dont you could die, so he gave me another and it stopped my heart and when it restarted this time, it was normal.
Scary, scary stuff. I thought I was ready to die in peace, but I guess I was wrong, because this heart related stuff scares the bejeesus out of me.
Good luck, OP, if you are perimenopause age or older, you might want to look into it, it's a very good chance its related to that. Many women my age are experiencing the heart palps from it, and some report it lasts for up to ten years..
