computer help re. windows memory warning
I got a windows pop-up warning advising me to close avg and firefox because I was low on memory. Then the box that was to explain the problem was essentially no longer in the data base. Does anyone know what this means? Thank you.

You're approaching the maximum number and size of files in 'puter, a defrag and disc cleanup will probably help. Otherwise, consider buying an external hard drive to back up your less essential files and get them off your internal hard drive to free up space.

Re: computer help re. windows memory warning
both are memory hogs. In firefox close most of your zillion tabs then use Memory Fox addon.

Turn AVG scan schedule off and run the scan only when you'll be away from the confuser during the scan.

Your Ram could be dieing.

Find a program to scan your memory. Then scan your HD just in case.

I doubt it was anything serious. Memory warnings happen allot when Windows does the stupid.

I got the warning again.
In addition to "close avg and firefox," it said it had to close "quick access."

I am nontech.

Thanks for the replies thus far.

It has to be real simple for me, otherwise I am liable to by myself do real damage because I don't know protocol.

If I had to guess you either have a bunch of useless background processes or your ram is going to fail. Go to your task manager and google some of your processes to see if theyre malware.

Re: computer help re. windows memory warning
I would say its your virtual memory. Try freeing up hard drive space by deleting some stuff.

Windows has something called a paging file you can find this in control panel>system>advanced system settings>performance settings>Advanced>virtual memory. Here you can change the paging file size or at least see how much free space you need to free up on your drives.

For example, My paging file size is roughly 6gb. This means there needs to be 6gb free on each hard drive for your computer to function properly.

OK. I think it's a virus or something.
The windows pop-up said to close malwarebytes.
If it hit malwarebytes, is it best to delete what I have and reload since I just had the fastest scan ever (10 minutes).

Thanks to all who respond.
