I had dropped my son in law off to get something from the house. I was even in my pjs. All of a sudden out of nowhere comes a man yelling at me at the top of his lungs. I cracked my window as I am a female senior citizen and do not allow anyone access to my body for ANY reason ...esp when I didn't know WHO this man was. He continued to yell through my window. He had walked out of one of the houses and approached me. Had no clue who he was but it unnerved me to no end. I have severe asthma and of course that did not help either. Anyway, he kept telling to to ROLL DOWN YOUR WINDOW...WHO ARE YOU?...etc. Finally, I told him to STOP screaming at me. WHO ARE YOU, I asked. He was a town policeman...outta uniform of course....demanding I show him my license. I just kept telling him to stop YELLING AT ME. All of a sudden, a police car pulls in front of my car and a cop in uniform gets out. He approaches rather sheepishly and I then rolled my window down. I told the off duty cop who I was and how rude HE was to me. He said they had drugs being sold in the neighborhood and he was JUST checking. WHATEVER. Anyway, I got his name and looked him up on the police website. SURE enough, he'd gotten cop of the year award in this redneck town. WOW. This off duty cop never produced anything about who he was...for all I knew, he was a dealer or a raging drunk. Found out too that he was a heavy drinker. So much for security and being polite huh? Have NO RESPECT for them any longer..... |

Quoting: Doc Savage Roadside safety check points have been conducted since the invention of automobiles. It's not a big deal. If the driver had simply cooperated with the first police officer (who was friendly and professional, by the way), the guy would probably have been on his way in 60 seconds or less. But the driver was obviously in a baiting mood and coming across like some arrogant Constitutional scholar, when that attitude wasn't necessary at all. No, he was "exposing the tyrant" - to quote Martin Luther King Jr. I used to live in what was formerly the Soviet Union. My roomate used to be a Sgt in the USSR military. Guess what his duties were while he was in the military? Manning checkpoints and writing down license plate numbers. Checking internal passports to see if the person had the permission to drive to the next town. That's a whole lot like today. Instead of a paper and pencil to write down license plates, we have a contractor do it with a camera. If your papers aren't in order the police just may steal your car under civil asset forfeiture "laws". Just like in the Motherland. What is so sad is that police boot-lickers like you are so short-sighted and completely ignorant of history. Police thugs like this get only worse with the passage of time, unless someone exposes them. Oh please. Roadside safety check points don't produce a soviet/marxist society. The second cop was a dick as well for yelling at the guy -- THAT wasn't necessary, either. I hope the driver turns him in for disciplinary action. There's a HUGE difference between licking the boots of police officers and having respect for their authority. Don't become so paranoid that you believe ALL policemen are "tyrants." It's a very tiny minority. You completely missed the meaning of my post. It is in a cop's nature to abuse his authority - and many do. You are indeed ignorant of history and the 100 million people who died in the last century from the hands of soldiers and police. These people died in the Soviet Union, Nazi Germany, and Communist China. Do you think they suddenly went full-on jackbooted? He would have been better off on a bicycle. I agree with most thing when it is right and the policeman is wrong, but no reason to push a button every time they have a road block. Some are just the checking for people driving drunk or they are looking for someone that has been reported, so to catch them, road blocks to check everyone for licenses ..etc. There is a time a place for everything, no need to cause trouble when there is not any, just to start something. Do you know how many people are driving drunk, one drugs, and have stolen cars, kidnapped people, burglarized someone and they are reported on a road? Many times, would you rather they get away, or they cause a wreck, or the person kidnapped gets kill be cause you felt inconvenienced. Time an a place for everything and that was not one of them! I have been through many the same way, I am polite and friendly to the police and it is returned in kind. There have been people behind me arrested in those same road blocks for sooth on may, they could have got away. Daughter out with my own way. |

Sad thing is the first one seemed like a nice guy and was trying to calmly talk to the guy, and if he had just answered his questions and/or shown his license he probably would have been gone in less than 30 seconds. Instead he had to be a little douche and actively try to cause a problem where there wasn't one. Also, there's a difference between being detained and not being able to leave. For example if you're doing jury duty you aren't free to leave when you want, but you aren't being detained. |
