First time ever getting the flu
I am almost 50 years old, and I just got the flu for the first time. I have never had a flu shot in my life.

Last Wednesday: woke up in the morning coughing a little, felt a slight congestion in my sinuses and my chest. It felt mostly like I was getting a little cold or something. Had a pretty normal day, worked on my motorcycle in the afternoon. Stayed up late playing video games. Took some Vitamin C.

Thursday: Woke up feeling sick, cancelled an appointment for Friday, spent most of the day in bed, watching the cooking channel. Ordered a pizza for lunch. Noticed I was running a little fever of about 101. Started taking over the counter cold/flu medications. Nyquil at night to sleep good. Took some Vitamin C

Friday: OK, shit just got real. Fever peaked at about 103 lots of coughing, mostly would have been very tolerable but late in the day I got a bonzer of a headache, might have been from the fever. Pain was almost unbearable. Fever was giving me awful chills, I was in bed under two wool blankets with the house warmed up into the low 70's. Toughed it out, later in the evening about 11pm, headache started to let up and I was able to get some sleep. Still taking the Vitamin C

Saturday: Woke up at 4:44 in the morning. Bed was soaked with sweat, I was burning up under the heavy wool blankets, I think my fever broke. Kicked the covers off and realized my headache was completely gone and I felt a lot better. Went back to sleep. Woke back up around 11am feeling not too bad. Fever down to about 101. Actually got in the car and went out for food, drive thru! Even more Vitamin C

Sunday: Feeling like new! slight cough remains, fever is completely gone. Rode my motorcycle to the grocery store, felt good to be on the bike again. Got rained on on my way back. Cooked a nice thick steak for dinner with some brussel sprouts. MMMM delish! Drank a whole jug of orange juice!

Monday morning. I am completely back to normal. Sitting in my office, drinking coffee, no cough, feeling right as rain.
I see no reason to change my stance on the flu shot. This is a case where I would say it is absolutely not worth the risks. Stay healthy, eat right, drink lots of good, clean(fluoride free) water. And the flu is nothing more than an inconvenience.

Re: First time ever getting the flu
I woke up with a cough about 4 days ago. I thought it was the flu for sure but it never hit me. I still have a raspy cough thinking it's going to hit me with the full shabang any minute now.
