Another Thing to Worry About – Life Forms That Eat Stars
"As if we don’t have enough things to worry about … a group of philosophers, astrobiologists and techies has proposed that there could exist a life form that can eat stars and we need to start looking for it before it gets a case of Sun munchies.
Before you say “That’s the most far-fetched idea I’ve ever heard,” consider a binary star system where two stars appear to orbit around a common center. Could one actually be a life form feeding on the other in a solar parasitic way? Philosopher Dr. Clement Vidal thinks so."

Right?

I remember a lot of pics that showed what appeared to be something siphoning off of or hooked up to the sun...

That's why I thought this story was cool...

Re: Another Thing to Worry About – Life Forms That Eat Stars
IIRC, this is the plot of Stephen Baxter's Xelee series.

Dark matter entities supping on the baryonic goodness of our stars. The fact that it means the premature death of the universe is just a bonus.
That’s the thing about progress; all the word means is “continued movement in the same direction.” If the direction was a bad idea to start with, or if it’s passed the point at which it still made sense, continuing to trudge blindly onward into the gathering dark may not be the best idea in the world. Break out of that mental straitjacket, and the range of possible futures broadens out immeasurably.

the latest scientific theory is that stars are spit out of black holes and devoured by white/blue holes before ending up as a magical unicorn

Suctioning off plasma from the sun, interesting.
I sign any red karma I give, because if it's important enough to give, then it's important enough to know who gave it to you. :Skullspud:
