Forget about voting at the polls this year. EVERYONE should vote by absentee ballot!

The workers consider paper ballots (heh) a pain in the butt, but they are counted.

A telling suggestion. I have a hard time believing that a absentee ballot is the only salient path to a fair vote.

Oh sure, you're saying they're smart enough to hack voting stations around the country but they're not smart enough to throw some ballots in the landfill.

A.C. 4700, in PA you must fill out a small application several weeks in advance.

The application for an absentee ballot is processed, and an acutal ballot is sent to you prior to the election with a due date when it must be returned to voter services.

Once it is returned, the ballots are seperated by ward and precint, returned to the home precint, counted when the polls close, and tabluated into the paperwork which is then transported along with the machines to the county to be processed.

Each step of the way an absentee ballot is processed, it's numbered into a total and the total better dayum well match up to the other books the local election boards complete.

I think this is the safest way of knowing that your vote WILL count.

Yankees, I've never heard of a county running out of absentee ballots.

If we trigger an unprescidented run on them, then good.

Keep them busy getting us our ballots.

They count absentee ballots FIRST also, which gives those who do them the momentum!

Agree that voting absentee is the surest method of ensuring that one's vote will "count," due to all the checks and balances that need to be met in the process (on both sides--voter and elections officials)..

More and more folks are voting this way regardless for convenience' sake..

Permanent (CA option..not sure about other states/counties) absentee voter here..

As the polls have shown throughout the decades, only Republicans and conservatives have the intelligence to plan ahead. Don't take my word for it. It's on the record.

What do you plan to do? Lure indigents to the post office to mail their absentee forms? Can you teach a corpse to vote by absentee ballot? The homeless won't be able to use this option... no home street address.

Packs of cigarettes and pints of hooch offered to those who don't benefit from the political system (and only involve themselves when bribed) don't win elections. Real numbers, not gimmicks, lawsuits or protests win elecetions.

Absentee ballots are counted after the polls close, just for the reason that a momentum trend could be leaked and alter an outcome. Also having everybody vote by absentee ballot is the only way to guarentee that a lot of people will have to spend a lot of time doing un-needed work. But if it would shut up all you lefties that can't come to grips with losing, I'd do it myself. Here's an idea, go voluntere at a polling place. You can make sure that no diabolical men in black suits show up and steal votes and you can see what really happens.

Hmm..I don't know that I've heard that tabulating the absentee results is more labor-intensive than for the "regular" ballots (optical scanning - think that's the right term - same as SATs, e.g.)..but something to consider, definitely..

Otoh, I wonder if the need to process more mailed returns would balance the growing need for poll workers..an ongoing problem around here..and I believe other areas are also coming up empty-handed in this regard..

I like voting absentee. Cant tell you have many times over the years that I had a fire at work and didnt get to the polls before they closed.

Also, standing in line is something I hate.

if you have other people living in your home, like grown kids or a spouse who doesnt care to take the time to vote...you can fill out their ballots for them...

Well, judging from the 2000 & 2004 elections those with no ID were not allowed to vote (as it should be... one cannot borrow a book from the library without legal ID that states one's street address and telephone #) vis a vis the deciding results in Florida (2000) and Ohio (2004).

As for the alcoholics with ID, we just like to hope they pull the "wrong" lever or "vote their conscience" . Either way a much easier way to try to steal an election is to own a majority share in themanufacturer of voting machines.

Correct, PACNW..the only extra step (beyond opening the ee :)) I can think of is needing to verify the voter's signature is on the outside of the envelope (as must be done where I live)..

Why is the government allowed to throw out so many votes for either party. WTF is that about?

Yes,,,I forgot about that. You have to sign the outside of the envelope before you drop it in the mail.

By the way. If you miss the mail,,,they have a lot of drop boxes around the city you can put them in and if you dont have a car or cant get to a box, someone will come pick it up.
