Quoting: krinkfan look at the great old bands like pink floyd, rush, zeppelin, johnny cash, neil young, black sabbath....the list goes on and on....no one today even comes close. i mean in the last 10 years. even into the 1990's things were in decline for rock music. guitar has totally gone away. all the hacks no days just bridge the frets and keep rhythm. lyric creativity as all but ceased. country music is absolute shit these days. hip hop, well we know they are worthless cuz that is not really even music. pop/top 40 is more about the video and how slutty they can be. what was the last hard rock band that had a lead guitar you could actually pick up his lead? Tool maybe? rob zombie has some good guitar but its still hard to pick out. maybe it is evolving.. when something is dying it means it is about to be replaced with something brand nw. music is going to become life. us. TRUE music is life. Not here (obviously which is why we need to be entertained by more external forms of music (noise).. entertainment. But that is about to change. When everything around you is dancing with life in the most divine way. There is love. joy. bliss. music in the air. flowing through you. all around you.. the idea of music I have a feeling is going to be taking on a whole new meaning ;) |

Yes, music (with the exception of classical) reached it's peak sometime in the 70's and has been slowly on the decline ever since with the true gems becoming rarer by the day. I stopped listening to the radio a long time ago... "I'm trying to be a good soldier.. but you can't be a good soldier in a rotten war, Sir." |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66429829 Evolution is part of creation. Bingo! Remember this little old fella back here who had a Brian? The whole idea of life is to understand that it is a sham. Many think its a game but it is not. Its serious. Once you start seeing that everywhere you go, in everything you do every day, you are ready to leave. The next place is even harder. |

SoundCloud link is in my signature. Free downloads, if interested. Currently working on some instrumentals that feature a lot more and better guitar (and bass guitar at all), and are more rock than pop overall. Living in a world of joy, we build a ship of new alloy for next year's vacation to Jupiter. (from ALEXIS, one of my songs) [link to soundcloud.com] |

Your choices of "great bands" were devolved bands themselves. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 62071757 United States 01/13/2015 01:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Amplified, recorded music devolves on its own - no matter what. Led Zeppelin and Beatles were great listening.. the first few hundred times, but nothing beats an acoustic jam in the woods or with a tombourine - depends on who is playing. Best music I have ever experienced - was never signed by a label or 'digitally remastered". Out in the woods where a few 'outlaws' live, they always tell visitors to 'turn that shit off' if they bring their iPhone and battery speakers to play 'pretty lights' techno music - they make it a point to always give 'real' music precedence, and are vocal about how much they dislike all recorded music. They not much into photography either - sometimes I feel the same way and I have even made money from photos. |

Scatterboo User ID: 46581139 United States 01/13/2015 02:00 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You obviously have not dug deep enough OP... do you understand just HOW MUCH music is out there this day & age? Sure, if you are only familiar with top 40 crap that the industry pushes on you, then you will be stuck in an endless loop of hearing only the crap. But there are tons of producers and bands who have continued the progression of musical art over the years. Do some homework - open your eyes and ears. Read some independent music blogs - they are everywhere. And find indie artists - they are EVERYWHERE! Don't expect other people to find music for you, you have to dig up the gems yourself! This is an offensive post to creative persons, such as myself, who actually create the stuff! Do you seriously think TPTB would push well-intentioned artists onto us these days? Come on dude, just look at the media... Search and you will find I agree..there is still good music out there..you just have to look for it..mainstream music is awful..my 10 yr old grandson loves Layne Staley...so its up to us to teach good music to the young... |

You don't have the drum/guitar solos and skill that people had in the past though... but not everybody had mad guitar skills. AC-DC for example.. their music is good, but it's not particularly complex.. it's basically a lot of the same generic beats with different lyrics. (just being honest here) I like disturbed, 5 finger death punch, three days grace, etc. |

oopsbrokethatone User ID: 61414803 United States 01/13/2015 05:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You are right. The reason for the quality going down is because some of the youth did not listen to the mmusic we listened to as youth. I am 47, and I listened to easy rock, rock,Motown, jazz and New wave. Back then the music industry was very hard to get into. Alot of entertainers are selected because of how they look, and not so much because of singing ability or being able to play an instrument really well. Studios want big sales and impulsive buying is King. I just went to see Tears for Fears and Psychedelic Furs. They still sound awesome because they are real musicians. Back in the day, most groups had horn sections. The kids have been dumbed down. There are some new good groups out there. But if you are too good, you will not appeal to the biggest sector of music buyers, young people. I had four years of some kind of music training in school. Music for the masses does not take that into consideration. Some of the artists do not know what C sharp or a D flat sounds like. Transposing music is not easy either. They pay people to do what they can't do. To make sales easier. I really think it has also to do with ear bones and frequencies. If you listen to a certain style only, you grow accustomed to it. Music today is a science to make sales. |
