Do members compare to ACs when it comes to sense of humor?! | |

When you have to take accountability for your contributions, you tend to self-regulate your responses more, even on a preconscious level, to maintain a consistent reputation/persona, especially on forums that have a 'reputation' or karma system. So, obviously if you're posting as AC, you can say funny but potentially offensive things more often because you aren't going to be identified with what you post for the most part. |

Commonly known as "stick up butt" syndrome. I never understood why memmbers, who are as anonymous as ACs, thought that because they had an avatar, they were somehow "known"?! Well it's really not like that. Once you have an account, you are linked to one username and a picture. It's not so much a matter of whether you are known, but you are one consistent actor and thus other users can make judgements about you. When we know that people can trace our words back to us, we tend to self-moderate more. Same thing as why people are nicer face to face then online. creating a username brings more real life social elements online (name and a face). Of course any contribution online is gonna be far more uncensored then what you'll generally find in face to face interaction, but if you are a registered user and obviously a discrete entity, it's hard to be as willy nilly as an AC even if you want to. Easy to be an asshole when there are no consequences (banning doesn't count, easy workaround) |

I guess the members are trying to build a community, which is kind of funny. I mean, this is a conspiracy website. Hardly the place to make friends or believe what others are saying. But I get where you are coming from. |

Uhm, yeah, I don't trust anyone here either, but you can be friends without trusting someone imo. plus one of the benefits in being a user is that you accrue social capital by making good contributions and thusly if you are seeking specific information down the line people are generally going to be more responsive to you. scratch my back I'll scratch yours kind of arrangement. |

It's basically like a superstealth proxy. lol. yeah though, basically imo, you're right I'm not as funny as an AC, but that's okay I don't come here to be funny |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66991788 regitards are the antonym of what this place is about. generally here for selfish reasons. I disagree, yes there are a lot of forum shills, but AC sometimes get way into the meta-identity of being AC (like you did there) and then they get kind of conceited and zealous about the purity of the AC way. Also often enough ACs are users who want to sockpuppet or screw with people. And old threads that say the OP is an AC, generally it was a user who deleted their account years ago. yeah sometimes ACs contribute better stuff but I definitely wouldn't say they do defacto, uh uh |
