Don't know about you, but if I was homeless I wouldn't mind a roof over my head and meals for the weekend.

They should throw homeless people under a bus.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6751085

Fuck you.

You don't know anyone's story.

If they are going to start throwing people under buses, they should start with the hording, selfish, empathy-less cocks at the top of the pyramid - you know, the ones who create a system the pushes people into debt and homelessness and desperation.

The same ones that create the laws that have made this the largest prison state in the world, with more prisons that higher education institutions

Homelessness is the inevitable by-product of a system based on lies and fraud and slavery

You dont know anything you mindless twat.

Some people are made homeless not by there own choices.

When my husband had an affair, I took my children and moved in with my mom until he was supposed to leave with his gf.

He trashed our marital home and my children's rooms, busted pipes and messed the electricity up.I'm still paying on a home I can't live in.

Luckily I have my mom, she is my only relative I have left. I couldn't imagine living in shelters with my kids.

All because my ex husband was angry I wouldn't go back with him. It has devestated our children terribly.

From what I have found, he made the wrong choices.

Cops in general (NOT ALL) are not the sharpest tool in shed.

The stupid cop said "“theft of city utilities will not be tolerated during this bad economy.”

REALLY ?So if i drink water from a fountain in public park then I'm stealing city utilities ???

Common sense did not prevail in this case... now if the homeless guy was taking advantage of free service and reselling that electricity for his own profit , then yes that is theft.

Stupid cop.

I would hardly call a homeless mans time irreplaceable.. It's not like he had some place better he had to be. And what the hell is a bum doing with a cell phone anyways?

And no utility theft is not some kind of made up non existent law.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66923694

it's ridiculous stupidity.

It cost the time of the police, jail time,
court time, etc. to save a fucking penny.

it's stupidity of the highest order.

cop should be fired.

So theft should be legal if it's under a certain dollar amount?

So all those birthday parties at the park should end with cops coming then right shithead?

BULLSHIT.
In America there are only 3 types of homeless people:

1. THE LAZY
2. THE STUPID
3. VICTIMS OF CIRCUMSTANCE

That's it.

Anyone can have sympathy for 2 and 3,
and if 3 is not stupid too, they can and usually do
recover, and rebuild their lives.

There is no nation on Earth where there is more
opportunity to succeed in life and make a good living.

The border fence on the Rio Grande isn't there
to keep Americans from escaping into Mexico, dummy.

Did he ask for the use or pay for the electricity? If the answer is no then he committed theft. It's not that hard to figure out.

Public park? If there are outlets in a public park wouldn't they be public outlets?
 Quoting: Genghis_Khan

Me and band mates were taking a break from rehearsal kicking back in the park, burning things and steaks, having beers. We're we're over powered by a van blasting Mexican music.
So we brought our stage gear and set up and drowned out the shit and gave the park and local residence a FREE show !

Parks and Rec showed up with the cops and cited us for
disturbing the peace, no BBQ pit permit, no live entertainment permit, underage consumption of alcoholic beverages, loitering ( even during park hours ), illegal parking on public property, and THEFT of Public Utilities. We plugged into the park light post bases, which had open receptacles.

We fought it, but ended up with underage consumption charges, and contempt of court. The Bass player ripped a long, loud and nasty Fart.
It stunk so bad ! We laughed so hard snot was running out our noses.
It's still funny as hell !

Fuckin Metal !

How is it theft?

Had it been a family with a stereo or ipod or phone, they never would have been harassed - ever.

This was an excuse to harass a homeless man, pure and simple - profiling at its worst and an excuse for a cop to feel bigger and better than he will ever truly be

If it's theft, they should post something stating that electrical outlets should only be used by those with paid reservations and/or turn the power off to individual pavilions unless they are being used by those with paid reservations - which is what goes on in every park I've ever been to that had such restrictions

Since the dude was homeless and clearly not a taxpayer, would theft of services also be appropriate if he'd used the restroom or drinking fountain?

You realize how ignorant you are, right?

These are pubic amenities of the park, FREELY accessible to the PUBLIC - the judge knew it and released the dude immediately, now it's time for the power-abusing cop to get what he has coming to him for abusing the law and his authority

Or should cops abusing the law be legal if they're only harassing people other than you?

What a bullshit excuse

You don't get to pull the law from your asshole just because you're a cop (which is precisely what the presiding judge said) - nor do you get to harass someone with a criminal record simply for existing

Sorry you think I'm an asshole....

I just thought that physically and mentally abusing a child would make a cop angry enough to arrest the jerk.....

hf

I just don't think that the dudes past transgressions should give the cop the right to harass and arrest him for not breaking the law at the moment

I'm sure the homeless man would rather be any place else than jail, otherwise he would be there by choice, like many criminals. You know, three hots and a cot.

It's none of your business why he has a cell phone.

Obviously it is a made up law, or the charge would have stuck. It is theft when they steal it from a person, but this was a public park.
