The America of the twenty first century more resembles "Idiocracy" than this ideal America where people live responsibly. If America turned completely to libertarianism, we would look more like "Mad Max" than anything else. It is going to get worse too. "While our country remains untainted with the principles and manners which are now producing desolation in so many parts of the world; while she continues sincere, and incapable of insidious and impious policy, we shall have the strongest reason to rejoice in the local destination assigned us by Providence. But should the people of America once become capable of that deep simulation towards one another, and towards foreign nations, which assumes the language of justice and moderation, while it is practising iniquity and extravagance, and displays in the most captivating manner the charming pictures of candour, frankness, and sincerity, while it is rioting in rapine and insolence, this country will be the most miserable habitation in the world. Because we have no government, armed with power, capable of contending with human passions, unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge and licentiousness would break the strongest cords of our Constitution, as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other. Oaths in this country are as yet universally considered as sacred obligations. That which you have taken, and so solemnly repeated on that venerable ground, is an ample pledge of your sincerity and devotion to your country and its government." -John Adams Granted. So is the solution voting more power to our immoral leaders? Or is it removing their power so that moral people can teach their children in freedom? Because if you hadn't noticed, the powerful elites are the ones turning your children from morality, and they're doing it through their control of the education system. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67395301 But they have been co-opted by the elite as well, never hear any of them denounce chrony capitalism or corporatism. The contradiction of a free market is it must be tightly regulated to insure that one party cannot corner the market and stamp out competition. If the party has been co-opted, will abandoning it help? Or will fighting for it and purifying it help? And in a free market, one party can't corner the market and stamp out competition, because there's no laws that can be implemented to do that. If a company or group seizes power and starts imposing laws to create monopolies, you no longer have a free market. And even if a free market is impossible, isn't a freer market better than a less free market? Neither the repubs nor dems are trying to free the market. |

Had several conversations with the local party chairman, donated a bunch of office furniture to them, but there was a big stumbling block. Apparently they strongly believed in OPEN BORDERS which was a deal killer for me. My city was already getting overrun with illegal aliens. As I told the guy, nobody who has ever lived in a duplex next door to over a dozen of those nasty little cockroaches would ever vote for an 'open borders' advocate. Perhaps they have had the good sense to remove that from their party platform. Haven't checked recently. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 67523437 You HAVE to stop corporations and financial greed from destroying earth and people. Liberty for individuals is not the same as liberty for corporations to spread chemicals wherever they want. Libertarianism doesn't let corporations do what they want. If they pollute private property, libertarians hold corporations accountable. Fracking, for instance. It's the republicans and democrats who give corporations a free run. |
