What is Your Highest Level of Academic Achievement? | |

Someone has another thread going here below, saying he thinks GLP is less than 5% college graduates. I think the number is much higher, so let's find out. Quoting: Revbo™ Thread: I bet less than 5% of GLP are college graduates. This poll will be skewed toward higher "achievement" because of the embarrassment and bullshit factors. What do you want, bro? It's GLP. Take it or leave it. I'm a college drop out because I just couldn't stand the liberal bull-shit. It struck me as a huge waste of time. One of my pot smoking professors had big parties at his house every week so he could pick up young girls. I preffered my own parties, where I could pick up the girls. Once I realized that there was very little actual learning going on there, I majored in party! I was good at it, too! Quoting: Epic Beard Guy If partying was a major, that was my major, too. I just managed to make it through the full four years without collapsing...barely. I dropped my original poli-sci major because of the libs. It's hard for a professor to be too leftist in the business school, and I got lucky getting myself into the one Austrian school Econ professor's classes. He got fired shortly thereafter for banging a student on a boat. :banansex: Last Edited by Revbo™ on 01/26/2015 03:59 PM John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. |

I spent my years in college arguing with Liberal professors and students about all their nonsense. I suppose that had its value. Know your enemy. A couple of professors urged me to continue to get a masters in comparative literature or literature, but I couldn't imagine taking on tens of thousands of dollars in debt for such a useless degree. Especially if it meant working for the rest of my life in the liberal establishment. By graduation, I wanted out of the whole wretched college scene. I hadn't made any friends, and I made too many enemies. Building houses would have been more fun. If I had kids, I would strongly urge them against going to college, unless they were dead certain they wanted to be a doctor or lawyer, or some such thing. There are much better ways to make a living. |

I don't think a formal education is necessary, and if one is motivated, one can get a better education from experience than from some dipshit that don't know what the hell he's talking about, anyway, to quote one of my favorite movies, Dazed and Confused. It would be nice, though, if you guys that come down on formal schooling so hard would give the rest of us a little more credit. There are, according to my poll, a lot of highly formally educated people on this site, and just because we went to formal school doesn't mean we're sheep, just like you not going to formal school doesn't make you a dumbass, as the stereotype goes. Plenty of geniuses never got a Ph.D, but a lot of other geniuses did, and that doesn't make the ones with the piece of paper less than. Sometimes, having gone to school means that one thought a college degree would come in handy, and for many of us, it has. I would have gone to a different type of school if I had it to do over again, but for what I do now, college helped. I recruit for a living, and most of that, I learned as a member of a frat. The piece of paper that says I studied International Business seems to give me credibility. While I agree it's just a piece of paper, I'm not complaining. My exwife has a degree in industrial arts. She is qualified to teach auto-tech, but she can't change her own oil without fucking it up. She has had some really nice jobs as executive assistant, and office manager. They always ask if she has a degree, and she proudly tells them "YES". They never ask what kind of degree, so she doesn't tell them. Right out of high school, I was hired by the local electric utility, there was a lineman shortage back then as there is now. In three months I was making more than my dad. In 4 years I was making more than most lawyers and way more than my hs classmates who went to college. With the exception of one girl who became a judge, I was still making more than the ones that I kept track of, when I retired early, two years ago. To the person that said I "see self employment in your future. I technically have been self employed part time since 1989. Thank you! Your very right. Thanks for the information! I should have included that I am by no means waiting for someone to employ me. I have a pension from my old job and also I have been an antiquarian book dealer for many years. I was taught this business back in the 80s and it has served as a part time job ever since. I have an "eye" for value and can make hundreds per month but in order to make "thousands" you really must have money to out bid others at auctions. Value is interesting. I bought paintings, prints, books, games, and anything I believed was of value. It generally has worked well. This is the real value in a Humanities education, it enhances on what I know in Literature, etc. As to that guy from the UK that spoke about "slaves". Well, I worked in factories too from the time I was 16. Working in a factory is not a job, it is "repetition" work. Boring, mindless, and is the main reason I pursued an education. I have worked everything from building fences for a fence company, to dishwashing in a restaurant kitchen ala' George Orwell, I see nothing laughable about that! As to the UK, don't you have enough problems in Londonstan? |
