Re: Why didn't Jesus have a job?
That's a very good question OP! He did have a good paying job as a carpenter, but he found himself faced with a choice to make. He could continue in his comfort zone living comfortably on his wages; or he could answer God's call to step out in faith to speak a series of warnings to his countrymen.
He thankfully decided to put away the tools of his trade and to quit serving mammon, and the rest is history! Interestingly, many of his desciples found themselves facing this same choice. Many a preacher has quit his good paying job in the secular world in order to preach the gospell to the world.

Re: Why didn't Jesus have a job?
Jesus' job: to be God's servant.

Jesus served God by serving people.
He served the needs of people.
He healed the sick.
He fed the hungry.
He taught and gave hope to the ignorant and spiritually distressed.
The gospels are filled with incident after incident of Jesus serving people.
Though he was God's Son, Jesus never "pulled rank."
He never coerced people because "I am God's Son!"
He never intimidated people by reminding them that "I am God's Son."
He came to serve people.
He came to do God's will. How?
By being a great Jewish theologian in one of the rabbinical schools?
Through worship?
Through observance of the ceremonial system?
He did God's will through serving people.
On earth:
His job was to serve.
His mission was to die.
His purpose was to make forgiveness of sins available to everyone.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8284282

Bullshit!!! He was 100% flat out against that particular arsehole "God"! Why do you think they murdered him?

His purpose had NOTHING to do with "serving" - he never did hierarchy.

He TRIED to show the brainwashed that everything was about equilibrium - THEY twisted everything he was saying to try and made it look like he supported them - HE DID NOT!!!

He NEVER said "I am God's son"!!! He reffered to his "Father" as distinctly opposite to thier "God". THEY lie and put words in his mouth!

He NEVER mentioned "forgiveness of sins"!!! They CANNOT be "forgiven"! Equilibrium WILL balance out, ONLY by the one causing the suffering, then suffering himself in equal measure, should he WANT to enter JC's fathers "HOUSE" - NOT "KINGDOM"! This CANNOT be over-ridden by any "God" - no matter what the liars try to make you believe.

His job was to try to show people the lies and deciept in the religion.

His mission was to try to prevent the catastrophe - the armageddon that had been planned by the religion - from happening - he FAILED!

His purpose was to explain the most basic fundamental of existance, balance and equilibrium, and to try to make people understand that it is NOT possible to over-ride or change this. Therefore the "God" of thiers was a lie - thier "God" cannot change the basic fundamental of existance and still exist himself.

Re: Why didn't Jesus have a job?
If anyone wants the TRUTH about JC, it's real simple.

Read only JC's words in the New Testament, just wherever you see the word "God", change it to "my Father". Wherever you see the word "Kingdom", change it to "house".

And then see where he himself EVER refers to himself as "Lord", or "King".

Then you will find the TRUTH of what he was saying, and WHY they murdered him.

Re: Why didn't Jesus have a job?
He knew the Universe would provide sufficient - and he needed no more than sufficient. He was perfectly comfortable with "enough", so had no need to "work" 40 or 50 hours a week, when 15 hours a week is enough to for sufficiency.

I have nothing against people who honestly want to help people spiritually and with life in general. I think people should be free to believe what they want. I do have a problem with the many assholes out there that discover they can use their manipulative talents to quit their job and work maybe a few hours or couple days and week and preach. Lots of them set up a bible study in their house, convert it to a church (tax advantages) then talk people into all sorts of things to get money, open a day care, school, build a bigger church. If you have a problem they are quick to blame you for your own problems, unless of course you break out your checkbook. There is a large segment of the population that will believe just about anything a good salesman tells them. Once the sales pitch works, even if the salesman is convicted of a crime these people will continue to believe what he says.

There was a TV evangelist (I don't remember his name) and part of his message was "You don't know what to do with your money so send it to me." And people did, lots of people, lots of money and he used it to benefit himself and the network of people necessary to support his so called ministry in a lifestyle they could enjoy. And they justify their lifestyle as a reward from God for spreading the message.

Re: Why didn't Jesus have a job?
Jesus wasn't in need for anything in this world.

It is want that compels them to go down on their knees to the rich man in order to get from him permission to enrich him . . . what effective gain [has] the suppression of slavery brought [him ?] He is free, you say. Ah! That is his misfortune . . . These men . . . [have] the most terrible, the most imperious of masters, that is, need. . . . They must therefore find someone to hire them, or die of hunger. Is that to be free? --
