Please tell us what has gotten better in America since 9-11. Tell us how the military has helped any of us. Tell us how the world is better place because the military is detroying nation after nation.

While a court martial could lead to imprisonment, defense and military officials tell NBC News it is likely Bergdahl would be given consideration for the 5 years he spent in captivity and be permitted to leave the Army with a "less than honorable discharge."

If accepted, Bergdahl would be denied as much as $300 thousand in back pay and bonuses, and reduced in rank to at least Private First Class, the rank he held when he disappeared from his outpost in Afghanistan.

I agree the bad Sgt should be tossed out of the service with a Dishonorable Discharge ... leaving one's post is not the way to maintain unit cohesiveness, but "Desertion"? That implies that he went to fight for the other side (ala Benedict Arnold), which he DID NOT.

Don't worry ... those making these decision about the Sgt are the same ones who turned a blind eye to US Soldiers prisoner abuse at Abu Ghraib, in fact tried to keep it swept under the rug. They truly reflect the "REAL Moral Compasses" of the United State Military ... that is for sure. There are three things going on here from an insider. The rank and file boots on the ground soldiers want him in prison and absolutely want him to receive NO back pay. Obama wants this thing to disappear. The command General staff want to do the right thing without having to directly disobey an order from their commander in chief. If/when Obama pardons him, will the Generals ignore the order and put him in prison? If they don't they can forget about having command over there troops from that point forward.

Will Obama attempt to pardon him???

I don't believe that anyone thinks that I have missed the point. The govt and the news media uses inflammatory words ro describe people they want us to hate or fear, but they fail to use those same words to describe the people who are really our enemies.

The USA govt is the enemy of the American People and the whole world and yet I have never heard the govt or the news media call the govt TERRORISTS and EXTREMISTS and INSURGENTS.

NO terrorism happens anywhere in the world that the USA govt is not involved in. When they call something "good", it is surely evil.

Listen up guys! Obama has mastered the art of flipping the bird to America. He (or "them") orchestrated a very public release of CIA assets into the middle east as "leaders' of a fanatical Muslim army by suggesting that they were Muslim Brotherhood (ISIS) prisoners and he cleverly exchanged them for a deserter. To the Muslim world, he appears as their ally and he got away with blatant treason in his own country. He never gave two craps about the guy. There are literally untold numbers of POW's held in captivity and he intentionally exchanged them for this POS! Get it?

Coming from a military family I hate to say it but I will.

Today's rank and file military types are mostly non-thinking knee jerk types who if told to shoot their own mother WOULD. (ditto the alphabet agency types)

"Good little Nazi's" is the crude but correct way of describing them and how their brains work.

One thing the Draft did right ... was it brought into the military people with many different viewpoints and people who had absolutely no intention of sticking around so they were NOT going to be BUTT KISSERS like most of those with military careers today (or those who are just in and then out and are usually from a less educated strata of society). Those draftee people served as a check upon the Nazi thinking types that have always felt very comfortable with the rigidity of the military hierarchical mindset.

The "military /police state mindset" is potentially becoming a threat to the actual freedom of the United States, and the Constitution, if it continues on it's present course. Look at all the calls for a Military Coup that we all have read here ... REGULARLY.

I wonder why all these gung ho military types are NOT upset with Bush's, Cheney's, Powell's, and others outright lies that led us into the conflict in Iraq?

THOSE men, and a couple of women, CAUSED many to die, including several thousand US Service people ... yet the gung ho military types give them a complete pass about those lies they INTENTIONALLY TOLD that caused thousands of deaths.

Hypocrisy reigns supreme among many of the gung ho military types these days. Supreme.
