It's called the Flynn Effect.

It's an observable, measurable increase in IQ scores since they have been measured. The increases have been "continuous and approximately linear", which means it's pretty steadily observable.

Most of the gains have been in the middle ranges ... in the moderately high intelligence range, with very little gains in the highest ranges. Fewer people are in the lower ranges and more people are in the middle ranges over time.

What that means is that the bell of the bell curve is higher on the left than it was a hundred years ago.

One explanation is that worldwide, more children are in school longer and are more accustomed to taking tests of all sorts.

Other explanations:

More stimulating environment
Better nutrition
Less infectious disease

Yes - I believe that there are more humans as a percentage of the whole in moderately intelligent ranges and fewer in lower intelligent ranges since we began keeping track because it is measurably so.

I believe that more schooling and stimulation coupled with less nutritional deficiency and fewer childhood fevers are likely causes.

How many people go to school almost literally FOREVER - from the time they are 4 or 5 until they are almost 30 - and ultimately realize they can't function in the 'real world'?

Can't hold down a job, can't interact with others socially, etc., because there's more to being successful than being smart/educated?

I know a few Ivy League grads who have a mountain of debt and $40,000 a year jobs in totally unrelated industries because they can't function as part of a team or interact with people in a marginally 'normal' way.

I feel that you are sincere... I'm just not certain that you have any idea what you're talking about.

This is the reality of generational intellect. There are always a small number of very smart people and a large number of average (basically dummies but due to their numbers they are not considered so) and then of course there are the really stupid. The small smart percent carry the masses forward and make the overall populace appear smarter but in reality they are not. However, the training techniques improve and the masses acquire better ways of doing things so they all think they are smarter but they are just as dumb as the dummies before them.

But they can't read a tape measure with out counting it out!

Well I guess if you think mindless drunkenness and bad behaviour accompanied by lude unpleasant and unnecessary language of a nation educated by liars and televisions intelligent, then I guess it must be true in the context to which it is served!

They claim Rodney Dangerfield has only increased in sarcastic thoroughput.

But then come to think of it, IQ is not representative of actual; intelligence, it is a measure of memorising general knowledge as intelligence is very diverse and covers many areas. Generally as life intelligence most people are definitely very dense.

IQ doesn't take into account some people are better at some things than others. It is meant to be an overall measurement of course, created by the establishment to reflect success. Those in powerful places don't want ordinary people doing intelligent things.

Are they talking about just the western world? The increase would have to be due to the very smartest Asians, etc, migrating to our countries. They really do have some brilliant people coming over here.

Most of the world doesn't even do IQ tests, so I'm thinking they're just making a generalization about the west.

Um yeah it was proven? But IQ doesn't really mean squat.

The herd is being mind controlled (wag the dog) and basically has no free will or free thinking ability.

So while some outsiders may be intelligent, the herd can leach off that person and make it appear as if they were also intelligent, but thats about it.

IQ is one side of the coin...EQ (emotional intelligence) is the other....without a high enough EQ.....your high IQ isnt going to do jack for you...

All the brains in the world is of no use to a person with a low EQ, poor mental health, poor discipline, immature etc
