Sad. Honorable to rescue and help all the sea lions, seals, etc. and help them get healthier. But, what after? Are they then going to put them back into the Pacific? Zoos? Sounds like there's no food source left for them there. What a heartbreaking disaster!

how much does a decent personal geiger counter cost?

what are really 'safe' levels of radiation in food?

i'd be curious on what levels sushi/tuna etc... are at.

Ocean 'calamities' oversold, say researchers
Duarte's team reviews a number of news reports and scientific papers. It contrasts these with other papers that would seem to undermine the catastrophe narrative.

Sick, abandoned pups have shown up in alarming numbers on beaches in January.

a.) When you build it by your own you build a Alpha-, Beta- and Gamma Sensitive Geiger Counter for ca. 200-250$

b.) This is depending on the Food.

c.) Not detecable, in Theory Sushi is even much better than a big Chunck of Fish because for Sushi you use ca. 20-25g of one Type of Fish and the
next one from another Fish, etc..

We use a Food Sampler by our self and we do not see any Contamination
with Caesium, our big Food Lab do not see anything either in 99,5% of
all tested Fish.

I stopped eating sushi the day this happened.
I avoid all food from the Pacific.
 Quoting: SaltyFlats

I made a trip to the store that very day & bought a bunch of canned tuna, salmon, clams & sardines for my pre-fukushima stash. I eat it when I feel the urge. Getting low but it's fine with me.
This is all very sad on so many levels.

The Gulf of Mexico is fucked , the Pacific Ocean is fucked. This means a MAJOR upheaval in world food markets due to decreasing catches from the Oceans. Much of Asia (as much as 50%!) of their human protein is in the form of seafood. People aren't seeing the ecopolitics involved and how hunger may drive wars and revolutions in a very short time.

I sometimes wonder if the eugenicists aren't right - there's just too many of us making too great of demands on the Earth's resources. Humans belong here but we sure are making a terrible mess of things. We've got to make some big changes or die out as a species.

I'm just trying to put a bit a rational thought into this thread. I've been a commercial fisherman in Alaska for over 25 years. Within weeks of the Fukashima disaster I bought a cheap radiation detector. Since that time I have bought 2 more of them with the most expensive one being the one I bought from John B Wells, Caravan to Midnight, for $800. In all that time I have never detected an above normal level of radiation. Of course I don't check everyday, so I may have missed some spikes in radiation levels.

how long can it be expected this radiation will last in the ocean? if species, mammals and such start dying in large amounts will that effect the higher part of the food chain causing a chain reaction. Expect this would take quite a while but if radioactive waste cannot be cleaned or extracted somehow than it's just going to get worse before it ever gets better.

Unless the earth mother naturally reacts to this surge of material and in effect causes hurricanes and various changes to dismantle this decaying substance.

just a thought but could someone tell me what would happen if a fissure opened in the ground and nucleur waste came in contact with magma?

First the BP oil spill and now radioactive waste. Everything in the ocean is going to get sick. People are going to view sea animals but will notice they look sad, like they don't know what is wrong but that something is wrong enough to notice that something is not right.

what happens when all creatures on earth die because of all the oil, pollution, radiation, radio waves, etc? if we people of this planet do not figure out resolutions to these problems, I can't imagine what this world will look like in several hundred years, assuming it will even be a habitat that can support human life anymore.

Perhaps this technology is being supressed for reasons of greed and profiteering. Similar to the scenario of the cure cancer with one pill over chemotherapy and all the medications and medical treatments necessary for the lifetime of the patient and the "MONEY" this will all cost just to continue on living.

Think if there was an automobile that could run off steam, water, electrolysis? As far as we have come technologically speaking and still we must rely on energy sources that continue to cost everyone so much money. In the end it is always about the profit. You need money to survive and business's need money to continue doing what they do.

Why does so many types of soda pop contain "high fructose corn syrup" because it is "CHEAPER" to manufacture than sugar thereby increasing profits ten fold regardless of the health implications it continues and will continue to cause anyone who consumes it.

Why is so much food and beverages loaded with all these chemicals and crap? Does this keep doctors in business because so many people are obese and have health problems because they cannot afford the very expensive organic/natural food?

Companies are not held responsible for the ingredients they put into their products and too often to these CEO's care not for peoples health but the bottom line which is always dollar signs.

Radiation sickness presents like the flu.

Yeah...just ignore all the animals with lesions / open sores on them in the Pacific Northwest/Alaska.

Seals, polar bears, owls.....nah....it's the flu shot.

OK, at this point I need to ask... Where are you getting all this? Don't tell me "enenews.com".

I've live on the Oregon coast for 20 years, and walked the beaches (often daily) since then, and I still haven't been able to find anything unusual over the last few years.

No sick seals or pups, animals with open sores, "melting starfish", etc... A lot of my friends are fisherman, and according to them, literally nothing has changed since Fukushima.

And yeah, I understand if you want to call me a "shill", because there are plenty of them on this forum. But seriously, all I want to know, is when do I start seeing even a hint of all these conditions of which you speak?

Over 20 years frequenting a certain beach in California always yielded thousands of starfish at low tide... ALWAYS.

This was the first time, ever, that I couldn't find a single one. Im scared of what the future has in store for this planet, and Im as far away as an environmentalist as they come.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55307321

This is exactly what I'm talking about. I guess all of this just skipped right over Oregon. I cannot find anything out of the ordinary. And yet, people get all pissed off that I'm not seeing anything, even though I've been on high alert since March of 2011.

a.) you need to study/ research the Source Term and the Inventar
of FDNPS to find the Answer!

Ca. 80% of the Contamination was released in to the Water,
now you need to research Samples of this Water to get a better understanding (what type of Nuclides was released and in what Percentage)

Finally you need to research the Half Life of this specific Material.

The two Mayor Player are Caesium-134 with a Half Life of ca. 2 Years
and Caesium-137 with a Half Life of 30 Years.

It is already complicated to identify Caesium-134 because only ca. 25%
of the Initial Release are still in this Form, look for the Decay Chain.

b.) Magma: difficult Question because we have no empiric Data about it,
imho nothing would happen but the Magma get Contaminated too because
the Temp. of the surface Magma is to low!

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 40175749

They're not going anywhere. Not even the 5,800 staff working there. Seems to me, if we were being radiated, that those people would have all left years ago.

But... None of them have. It's business as usual. None of the politicians, movie stars, or any other high profile people have moved away either. Hell, Oprah even bought a massive property on Vancouver Island... lol.

Seems to me, that billionaires would be very in-the-know about dangers to their health and wealth.

The lies about "climate" are disgusting political horseshit to distract you from MURDER BY RADIOACTIVITY and the failure of the JAPANESE to clean up their own mess and the world has failed as well in support of their disgusting globalist HORSESHIT that will kill the planet.

SHAMEFUL!!!

considering 2 or 3 of those cores melted down and burned through the containment housing and are now a molten blob of uranium stuck in the bedrock.....i'd say hell ya they are radiating the fuck out of the pacific ocean.

and wasnt one of those reactors that melted down a MOX fuel? that makes it even worse.
 Quoting: krinkfan

yes reactor #3 had MOX

"Unlike the other five reactor units, reactor 3 ran on mixed core, containing both uranium fuel and mixed uranium and plutonium oxide, or MOX fuel"

I guess the point is that we really don't know what's going on.

based on the facts available, we have to assume at least 2(possible 3)cores melted into the ground. based on the facts available, those cores are still reacting to this day.

the thing is we haven't seen major effects on human life. as some have mentioned there are oddities about radiation readings. some areas are higher, some not as much. the whole situation is very confusing and it's just strange how we can't seem to get any information.
